19:54 Mona brings back the food, and the chicks have another feeding until 20:15.

The smallest of the group is always delightfully agile and fast. He quickly moves past his siblings, no matter where Mona wanders with the food.

The foot is briefly visible again before Mona swallows it and covers the chicks.

20:58 Miks brings food, and Mona goes back into defensive mode.

In fact, at least two of the three chicks crawl toward their mother (Mini is on the right), and Mona feeds until 21:03.

Then she leaves the nest and returns two minutes later with a half-dry pine branch.

May 21st

Good evening everyone!

While the hawklets in Riga are thriving exceptionally well and are equally vital and strong, here we have the little straggler. In my opinion, he's not "out of the woods" yet.

Mini is bold and tough. He knows how to sneak through feedings and is the only one who grabs the carcass on his own. He already does.

However, he's tiny compared to his siblings and he still has a few days to catch up with. And let's hope his siblings don't oppress him. So far, everything's been very balanced. :innocent:

06:36 - 54 The dwarf really enjoyed this feeding.

All the chicks ate well. A good foundation for the day.

Mona begins to improve the nest. She loosens it up, cleans it, and upgrades the edge of the nest.
The female isn't shy about it. 8-)

She even places a branch on top of the chicks.

12:47 The next feeding.
Image

Two eat with gusto, and the youngest one isn't interested in the slightest.
He turns away, and even at the end of the feeding, Mini is still lying sleepily between his siblings.

The little darlings are getting fidgety, babbling and chirping, and begging each other.

Full of anticipation and expectation for mom – who's bringing bark. No food yet.

...well, the bundles of joy will greet their mother in the nest in a similarly uncharming way. 8-)

A very nice feeding that Mona offers her children. :innocent:

They all ate well.
The youngest's crop also swelled again during the feeding. He was also the first to crawl back into the nest bowl.
