Bea, I don't care about names.Madis is okay, but isn't there already an eagle with that name or am I wrong?

Thanks for your reply IceAge - you are right, there was a 'Madis, the Osprey', he was named in 2012 when the nest cam started, it was an ESTLAT project.

But after such a long time it is okay to have a 'Madis, the LSE'.
I checked the names of the birds on the birdmap, there is currently no 'Madis' also in other species, so there should be no confusion in case our LSE here will be trapped, ringed and fitted with a transmitter.

There was a delivery at 10:23, but I couldn´t see what it was, Milda blocked the view with her back

A few minutes later there were some military noises, but I missed the exact time

I wonder what this orange thing is. A fungus?
Hi Susanne,

I think this is a spruce bud, which will release fresh green needles soon. Before they open, they look like this golden brown knobs

Hello LSE fans! :hi:

We have a new LSE nest that we can follow! :shake:

The female on the nest is Milda, the LSE that we know from the Birdmap
https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/EN/

Info text from the birdmap

The female of Lesser Spotted Eagle nesting near the Nursipalu military training area. She is being monitored as part of the military training area impact investigation. Milda grew up in the western part of Latvia, close to the Lithuanian border, so nearly 300 km southwest of her current nesting place. We know this thanks to Aigars Kalvans, who ringed Milda as a nestling in 2016. We didn't put the white ring on Milda's leg, foreseen for Lesser Spotted Eagles born in Estonia.
In 2024, Milda had one chick who fledged before Milda was captured and fitted with a tracking device. It was not possible to catch a mate this time.
2024 autumn migration started for Milda on September 16.

Look, where she spent the winter :faint:

Good evening everyone :hi:

So it looks like all can go with the name Madis for Milda´s mate and Dad of the eaglet/s to be.

Great, that this went so well on a 'short way' and thanks to Hedi 52 from the chat for the suggestion.

Hopefully there are more posters here when the eaglet/s have hatched and then we will make a name poll in the usual way for the little one/s.

There are still some days to wait for eaglet/s, LSEs are breeding between 38 and 41 days, first egg was laid on 4. May, the second on 8. May

Some impressions of Milda's preening sessions, starting with a nice stretch:

Always a good occasion to take a closer look at the plumage.

Beautiful Milda! - Gosh, this orange bud has doubled its size in a day, I guess ...

Image

19:49: Milda flies over to an obs.tree. Perhaps she needs to cast a pellet.
19:54: Milda is back with a fresh pine twig.

Image

Oops! When she places it at the rim in the back, she 'steps' on one of the eggs. But everything is fine.

Milda flies over to her obs.tree, Madis secures the area.

And covers the eggs.
