I think you may call this a sensational judgment by the Grenoble Court of Appeal, following a French poacher's shooting of a WTE released into the wild in Sept 2023, shot in Feb 2024.

He has to pay around 116 000 €!!! This is one of the largest sums I've ever heard about regarding such a crime.

WTE-female called Minna

In September 2025 it was reported in Finnish media that WTE-female called Minna equipped with a satellite tracker had been found dead in Rügen, Germany. Minna was found injured on Aug 11th 2020 in Kuopio (eastern central Finland) as an adult. She was in poor condition and thin because she had a spoonbait with some 60 cm of fishing line hanging on the side her lower mandible. The spoonbait with its hooks had injured her tongue and the soft tissues of the mandible. Minna was taken to an animal hospital where the spoonbill was removed and she was given medical treatment. She recovered well: she got her appetite back and gained weight fast.

On Aug 28th 2020 Minna was found well enough to be released back in nature. She was equipped with a satellite tracker and named Minna after her 'nurse' Minna Pellinen.

Minna spent the summers in Finland and winters in Germany. She was an adult when she was found, with estimated age 6 years, but she never bred during the time she was followed. The place where she was found dead was near an occupied nest so it was assumed that she was probably killed in a territorial fight.

(See article by The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation:

and Iltalehti Sep 29th 2025:

Both are in Finnish but you can try a translator. I didn't find anything in English.)

Aarne Hagman made a summary of Minna's travels with a video of her registered movements.
