This time, she's met with protest. A5 disagrees and squeals. In the end, he has to admit defeat to his mother.

Except for A4, who pulls it toward him from the edge of the nest.


He stands on the piece of food and begins to bite successfully.

Two boys stand out.
First, A5, who initially stands at the edge of the nest and then squeaks throughout almost the entire feeding. He seems incredibly begging and greedy...

Then A2, who struggled for seven endless minutes with a feather stuck in his throat.

The feather was stuck awkwardly. It wouldn't come out or fall down. He looked at Pērle and demonstrated his mishap, but Pērle didn't react.
In his distress, A2 turned away from the feeding and climbed onto the edge of the nest. He pushed, choked, and shook so hard that he stumbled.






I don't know if something like that could be dangerous for Hawklets at that age, but A2 certainly seemed panicked and helpless.

Phew... he did it on his own.

Good evening everyone!

There's life in the hutch. The young wild ones are bursting with energy and eager for life outside.






They are being extremely well cared for, and Pērle may be practicing her first feeding tactics to prepare the hawklets for branching out.

The first feeding was later today.

One is always different... it stays that way.




The children will soon begin exploring the nest tree. I think they're ready. Their wings and jumping ability are strong. All four are in excellent shape.

I have to go into inpatient medical treatment tomorrow and am afraid I'll miss the first branching. I'll try to be back here soon, but perhaps someone can document the event? I hope I won't be out of action for more than 2-3 days.

June 3rd

Good morning, Polly and all.

First of all I hope all goes well and you are here again.

The chicks are very grown up , the older ones A5 and A2 have almost no white down left , they don't have much left to climb branches and fly . I think they are also more advanced than other years at the same age. The food is not lacking and there is no fighting, even A3 has a lot of feathers. They are all very close together, only 2.5 days apart from the older ones and it will take a little longer because their growth is completed in more days due to their greater weight and volume.
The main branches are well visible and we can follow their evolution and the nest is spacious.
Until 10:23 I have not seen any feeding yet.

The day has passed with their routine of exploration, walks, branch visits, eating, napping, sleeping, calling ... they take turns.

Feeding at 12:53 and 17:07 when H44 left the prey in the nest followed by Perle feeding.

At 12:12 , 5A2 calls with Ki-Ki-ki.

The most used branch is the back branch because of its accessibility, both for the chicks and for Perle to keep watch.
At the last minute they prepare to sleep.

June 4rd

Good evening Polly and everybody

Today has seen the first jumps to distant branches :

5A2 ( 15:38 - 16:35 ) On the left and up .
( 20:49 - 21:02 ) On the right, off camera.

The others (except 5A3) have used the back branch which is at the level of the nest and cannot be considered a big jump.
In the next few days the other males will do so.

The chicks flap their wings, stretch their wings, jump, run through the nest, call (also ki- ki-ki). They show good health and strength.

Close-ups in front of the camera show that 5A5 and 5A3 have a lighter creamy underside of the breast than the other two siblings.

5A5 was always slightly ahead of 5A2 in plumage but they are now even. From now on it will be necessary to look more closely at the thighs, head and tail.

Perle is still bringing twigs and H44 food.
