


Jo, perhaps in some species it might be. The red cardinal male usually shows a crest but not the female (that I have seen). I really do not know anything more than that, except that some birds, like the bald eagle, will raise the feathers on their head a bit when they are stressed and otherwise you don't see anything you would call a crest.Jo UK wrote:Bociany, do you know if this tuft or crest is associated with gender?
