Good evening, everyone

Summi, Mary Jane, Liz and balistar, thank you very much for your great videos, pictures and reports!

Balistar, of course, we like your beautiful pictures a lot! And of course, they are NOT too late! Thank you for posting them! :2thumbsup:

I was really impressed by our Kati. She can be a real Fury!
I made some extra pictures if you don't mind.

Karl II, these pictures are especially for you, so you can see what a wonderful female you seduced!

Oh oh, what news here! :D

Good evening everyone!

Big thanks to all for the reports, comments, super videos and impressive pictures! :2thumbsup:
If I remember right, I saw Kati for the first time defending her nest so directly. How determined she was to chase the other stork away! And successful!
I almost feel a little sorry for the male stork. Thinking of Kaupo in the Latvian nest I can imagine how urgent a single stork searches for a mate. But of course our Kati is not the right for him.

Besides of all the other marvelous and spectacular pictures I like this one a lot. I almost got a fright to see Kati like this. Here she really looks like a fury. :D
Well done, Kati!

that is an incredible stance of defense with the wings wrapped around and down to the ground - I'm guessing it makes the stork look larger. She was fierce!

How does a stork find a nest like this - is there a smell or some sign that they follow?

Good Morning Anne, Michi, Mary Jane, Summi, HellenL and all :hi:

Anne, I like your great pictures much! Thank you. Michi, She did it last year as well. She probably defended the nest and eggs against Karl II.
I have to say I almost had a heart attack when I saw that he has rings. I could not remember the ring number of Karl. It could have been that he lost his transmitter.

5:22 Karl II is already doing morning duties.

If you are interested, you can try to find out who the visitor OFAF was. Unfortunately, I have no time at the moment

Info to my request from European Coulor ring :
Thank you very much for your report of a colour marked bird. Hellen, I think there are areas, where is a larger number of black storks. So it is inevitable that they meet each other. During the breeding season, such meetings are undesirable. Outside the breeding season, they are sociable.

Maybe @Jo UK could pin the archive address on the first page? It gets asked for from time to time, and many later followers don't even know it exists.

In Karula there is little rain in comparison to other regions of Estonia:
Karula parish
https://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail:Eest ... a_vald.png
and fire hazard index after the morning rain
https://ilm.ee/tuleoht/
These speak for themselves. So Karl II should not be bothered by a drop or two.

16:01 Still no Kati :slap:
Karl II has been on the eggs since 7:02 pm yesterday. That is already 21 hours of non-stop breeding. He is getting soaked.
Kati, where are you?

In the night:
I wonder how they can see in absolute darkness.
2:51 nest bowl aerating.. poop shot, poking in the nest, wing stretching and back on eggs
2:53 sounds flying ..hmm- a bang
3:31 aerating the nest bowl
3:33 someone flew away
3:34 I hear beak clattering once
3:38 beak clattering
3:40 preening
scratching his- her head.. I think one is standing on the curved branch. It sounds like that. bang - bang

3:42 aerating the nest bowl
3:46 poking in the nest
3:48 still poking
3:50 bang on the right and poking in the nest
I do that,. because I want to know if Kati was there. I think so, she is here.
You can see it in nests with infrared cameras. They do a lot at night and sleep a little. And they are together. Most one of them is on a branch nearby

4:11 he/she is calling Oh dear! that sounds strange. Danger!
That sounds like great danger.
4:14:45 A Eagle Owl? :puzzled:
5:03:46 whats that! I never saw it.

video later...

There was a fight in the nest
4:11 he started preening himself. Suddenly someone came. He rattled his beak and started calling.. These are very special calls.
After that a fight and he calls again. And then a eagle owl is calling near

4:15I think it is over
