They seemed to have some disagreement of how and where "the carpet is supposed to be laid" on the nest.

Ame, I got those books you suggested. At the same time I was able to get the librarian to start watching the cameras. She was wild about the owl and the eagles. We actually had a wonderful talk about these great birds.
The books were fantastic!! Similarly, though, I was saddened by the fact that not so long ago these fine creatures were shot just for the sport. Looking at them here on the nest and seeing them work and breed I simply don't get what people have thought. What did they think they would win by getting rid of the species? The stupidity of human embarrasses me....

Liz01, those bonding sounds don't always mean that mating happens - you can't tell mating by only sounds. Sorry to say it.
We have seen several times in this nest view that the eagles "sing" without having a mating.

Thanks, Mutikluti
This was a kind of 'quiet' mating. I remember have seen matings when only Uku sings - have you noticed of their sounds that only the male 'sings' during the act?

And often Anna flies to "the mating branch" first and Uku follows upon her.

I love this view and that branch, where I suppose the parents will stand guarding for most of the season, even when no more brooding is needed for the chicks, And so far, they bond there mating. :D

Eagle species are probably moods also as we! :D Once in the same way the second time in a different way... Most important is how Uku manage this situation.... :rotf:

Owlie, I wrote "Mating out of sigth" You interpret again. Please read right. sorry to say it
It was the beating of wings and the tree wobbled. That does not happen if they only sing!

If you mean "out of SIGHT" I do not interpret but translate: you did not see it. And I still mean that when you don't see a mating, you cannot prove that it happened and it is not correct to insist it or tell us. Which you have often done in for example the Latvian WTE nest thread.

there is a difference in singing together and mating calls. in case of a mating the male sings very intensively, in accelerating pace with his voice rising higher and higher and finally breaking into a falsetto screaming voices. if we hear such a cry we can be rather sure that a mating has taken place. the female is quiet. at the newer Saunja nest Linda and Sulev had the habit of mating on the nest in front of the camera and then we learned what the mating sounds like. so i think that we can tell what mating should sound like even though we don't see it.

you are absolutely right: of course we cannot be absolutely 100%-sure of a mating if we only hear sounds. in fact i wouldn't be 100%-sure even if i saw a mating. it is so wobbly business that i am always surprised that it's ever successful. yet we see chicks hatching every year.

in this particular case i am a bit doubtful about the mating being successful. the calls were too short and there was no falsetto voices. i should say this one was an attempt, but not a successful one.

i think that male eagles need to be very persuasive lovers. i should think that if the lady does not want it will not happen. :whistling:
