If I remember correctly, Anne's theory was that it could be muscle tension. I think that could be true. The cold and the long sitting could trigger it. It is cold there. Hmm... I just do not know

It is interesting to see that Kati makes the same movements.

Adult birds do not sleep in a lying posture.
A lying posture isn't a 'normal' posture for them.
Maybe this very long lying on the eggs could cause a feeling of numbness, cramps or (muscle) tension.
And as you said, the cold will not help to relax.
But this of course only a guess.
As balistar said: "we don't know for sure."

Why can storks stand on one leg for so long? The bare legs of the storks are ideal for walking on wet meadows. But when the storks rest, they quickly lose heat through their legs. That's why they often hide a leg in their plumage. But how do you manage to keep your balance on one leg for so long? Between the lower leg and the run is the so-called Intertarsalgelenk, a snap hinge. When the storks stretch the leg, the joint snaps and connects the lower and thighs in a straight line, the leg remains stretched without muscle power. This makes resting on one leg a stunner for the storks.

I adapted the above drawing to show how the legs are folded when a bird lies down.
If I tried to lie down in the same way (the knees folded under my belly and my toes pointed forward), it would not be very comfortable.

The FIRST EGG was seen at first light on 12 April, 2019
The SECOND EGG was seen on 14 April, 2019
The THIRD EGG was seen on 16 April, 2019
The FOURTH EGG was seen on 18 April, 2019

We can expect that the first egg will hatch around the 16 or the 17 of May (+/- one day).
The following eggs hatch then with one day interval (in most of the cases)

I just saw to a white stork nest with 5 youngsters and it was fascinating how careful the adult sank down to cover them in the best way :-))

And what the white stork did as well as the black stork: yawning :-)

Did you see it at White Stork? I do not observe white storks, at least not so intense .. Day after day - hour after hour .. as I do with the black storks.

And I don't think there's any reason to apologize.

I think that it is good that we keep in mind that most people on this forum write in a language that is not their native language (myself included). Misunderstandings can therefore easily arise, but if everyone has goodwill toward all other members, that does not have to cause problems. Even if we sometimes end up in the tower of Babel, there is always a way to understand each other.

Karl II never stretches his leg completely. He stretches it angled. Maruska stretches her leg (straight). she * shakes * her leg almost.
and she stands very much on one leg and the other keeps her up or bent
