Thank you, Jo
This photograph shows that the nest was slanting already last year.
Karl has done a great job with the nest. Kati, hurry up now.

Summi, I ws under the impression that this photograph from Urmas is very recent.
Direct quote from his e-mail -

Hello Jo,
during installation of BS cam I took few photos of Ain Nurmla, who was
up there at nest this time.

Not to forget the last data. With the last section of Karls journey to his home in Karula Nationalpark he has covered 7230 km. Incredibly.

Birdmap on 05.04.2017, showing data from 04.04.2017, Karls complete route.

Yes, that photo of Ain and nest is taken in 22th of March 2017.

Distance covered by Karl is calculated starting in 15th of February, so distance of migration is somewhat shorter. I did not measure exactly but nearly 7200km it is.

Despite Karl is a skilled nest builder, some sticks stay insubordinate

.... but he does not forget to make a good stretch during work :D

Image

He left the nest at 18:05

And is back with a lichen stick a minute later
Image

He tried to place it in the gap between the two tree trunks - I think he doesn´t like the gap, saw him poking there with his beak today already several times

18:18 He is back with a new stick and the work continues

18:25 Karl flew away
20:24 He is back for night

Nobody knows that as this nest was discovered last year and both adults didn´t had rings.
Probably not too young as this nest is quite old. From last year introduction on LK page: "The black stork nest is not new for the storks breeding there. The nest is quite bulky and apparently quite old as well".

Should look and compare all previous Black Stork forums but I don´t remember that stork, who arrived first prepared the nest so carefully before partner arrival.

Padis worked at the nest in 2009(despite Donna didn't return) and also Tiit in 2013 before Tiina arrived.
