My thoughts on this:Timea wrote: May 22nd, 2018, 1:33 pm 13.31:

The egg is almost always in a different position when the old storks get up. There is a lot of movement or even too much under the belly. The 4th Störchlein has not managed to get a hole in the egg, all I saw were light and shadow games or dirt spots. And I was often so sure, it's a hole ... it was gone again. The air supply in the egg is not enough forever.
Anyway, the three little ones do a lot of work for Karl and Kati, we hope that everything succeeds and they are ready in a few weeks to start into the big wide world ... .

And the bird at the left of the nest very much looks like a Starling to me. Difficult to tell because it is hard to "guesstimate" the distance.

Yes, There was in my "white stork time" already wonder, the black stork life is even harder.Timea wrote: May 22nd, 2018, 2:35 pmUte, you know....I'm glad 4th egg did not hatch. It would definitely stay behind in growth, and we all know what happens then.
better picture

you're right, She recognizes it as an enemy. But it has not called. It was the sound of big wing beating.. a buzzard or a bigger bird.
14:27 the bird is still around ... flew away .. Katie calm down and starts preening herself.
Ute thank you for your daily report

Kati left, Karl regurg. a lot of water and a bunch of nicely sized fish. Just too far away for the smallest chick to reach.

The chicks are barely able to move, so full are they.

All 3 have eaten very well. Full crops. Even the youngest one swallowed a huge piece of pre-digested food. Soon we will not see any difference in size anymore, I think.

Sleep well, Timea.

Good night, everyone!
Thanks, Ute! Your picture is so funny!

Yes, that is true, because nobody brings here a busket with a red bow for the fourth chick.Summi wrote: May 22nd, 2018, 10:49 am Karl has really vigorously rolled the chicks and also the egg and I'm afraid the fourth egg won't hatch.
Liz has explained this kind of situation in the Latvian BS Forum
viewtopic.php?f=96&t=916&start=980
If this is the case, better it happens at this stage than when already hatched but the smallest one would be thrown out of nest.
If the egg stays in the nest(or will be thrown away but not broken) until ringing Urmas will take it and check what was wrong.
But it looks like the egg was quacking. Only 30 days passed since it was laid.
