This egg can't be fertilized, it takes 2 to 3 days from mating to laying a fertilized egg. The next one will be ok!Mutikluti wrote:An egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this egg must be "wrong" too and it is even laid in the wrong time.
Tiit is back and stood on the rim.

Hello to all,
Our friends storks did not waste time; already a new egg in the nest.

As far as I know, mating only takes place on the nest.Mutikluti wrote:Of course, this egg is maybe unfertilized...but maybe they met earlier..out of the nest? Seems what will be.... The next egg will be the right egg...I know.

And this egg went the way of the other two.

Thank you very much FelisFelis silvestris wrote:I have added the video showing the first meeting on the nest (either the very first or the first after a long winter apart). All important information can be found on the first page, we will keep adding things!

Thank you Baska, I thought something in this direction...baska wrote:And somebody asked: why didn't Tiit and Tiina get rings? - It is not possible to fix rings on adult storks. As soon as a person approaches adult storks, they fly away immediately.
...this question I ask me yesterday, too...Felis silvestris wrote:...that Tiina (and how are we sure it is the same Tiina as always?) ....
Mutikkluti, you are right, Tauno sounds nice, but first I think we have to wait for the opinion of a specialist if this could be Tiit or not...Mutikluti wrote:But what you think about name our new friend...? It's not Tiit...sad but truth. I thought about name: Tauno. Tiina and Tauno...sounds nice?

This egg can't have been fertilized already, so soon as it appeared. Maybe the storks know such things?
It's going to be a really interesting season
About naming - I guess we wait for the expert opinion, otherwise we will have the quarrel about is he/he isn't going on all over this season.
I have looked up a few things in the book Carsten Rohde co-authored, but they write only very generally about plumage, markings, colours etc. We have seen ourselves that by the end of the season the storks do look different, right now they wear their mating plumage, the red colours of legs, beak and eyerings are more intensive than later.

But last year there were three unfertilized eggs and they stayed in the nest together with storklets. How comes those three eggs weren't removed and these ones were?

Hello Felis,
I think that the red area around the eyes must be a personal sign that does not change too much during lifetime. How do you see this?
BTW: Wish you a nice easter holiday!
