20:07: Anna arrives with spruce; off at 20:09 and back again with more spruce at 20:11. Now there's time for some preening which Ieva is demanding. I find it so heartwarming how Ieva makes herself so 'small'.

July 30

This obviously is a day that Ieva spends most of the time on her branch at the left.
06:06 ff.: My branch! She goes back to the nest and back to the branch, even flutters onto the branch, and at 06:13, she exercises her wings on the there. Very lively and active Ieva, just how it should be.

Image

Soemthing interesting in the sky:

Image

12:13: First food delivery, Andris with a rodent, quickly swallowed by Ieva.

After Andris has left, there are some 'SOS'-calls (warning calls).

Image

12:35: 2nd food delivery by Andris - a somewhat smaller rodent -> snap-gulp-gone.

Image

12:40: And back on the branch.

14:53: Andris with a rodent.

Image

Close-up on the prey: Looks like a striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius) - mid-dorsal black stripe.

Image

What a rare sight today  - Ieva lying in the nest bowl.

16:54: Andris with a rodent - a mouse of some kind. He serves it from the branch at the left (!).

Image

While Ieva swallows the mouse, she of course has to mantle - come on, this is mandatory when the 'delivery man' is still behind your back.

Image

Ieva wants Andris to leave from the branch - but he jumps onto the nest.

Interesting body language. Ieva ushers him to the main entry/exit. "Along my side, it is"

Image

17:40: Andris with another rodent.

Image

This one will be cut and eaten, previous prey had been swallowed.

18:40: Anna with a branch. Ieva saw her some minutes before and has been calling since. But Anna is off again.

Image

Ieva is still delighted and absolutely excited about Anna's visit, jumps to and fro in the nest. A big eagle I am! (Yes, you are, cutie.)

Image

She jumps back onto the branch, calling. And back into the nest, almost slipping - but that's part of the training, yep, she is doing really fine.

20:53; Anna is back with spruce. She cleans up the nest and eats something from the rim close to the cam - might be sprinkles of Ieva's pellets. At 20:59, she perches on a branch at the right. And this makes Ieva a little crazy, since she maybe reckoned to get some 'preeners' now.

I can see you! - Ieva is calling.

Image

I see you from here as well! - calling.

Image

Anna seems to continue perching on that branch, I saw downs fly away, she's preening herself - and Ieva is still looking.

Image

We'll see if Anna prefers to roost on the branch - or if she returns to the nest. Will she subside to Ieva's begging calls?

Ieva "cleans" the camera.

Image

21:32: Ieva flutters onto the branch at the left.
21:36: Interesting: I hear trilling calls. Anna is still there and seems to summon her eaglet to return to the nest.
21:39: Now Anna jumps back into the nest, Ieva is already lying down.

Fledging Day!

Before starting with documentation, please allow me to break the chronology - this is the first thing I read today. And it's one of the most important events on this nest - so I would like to post it here:

10:15: Ieva on her way to her adult life. She flies over to the trees opposite of the nest.

Shortly before leaving. Anna makes herself ready for the day and will leave at 05:42.

Image

05:43 ff.: Ieva hops through the nest, she is very excited, jumping, calling, chirping. At 05:44, she flies over to the left branch.
05:53: She jumps onto a branch next to the cam and then back to the left branch, where she mainly stays for the next time.

07:28 ff.: And a bit further on the left branch, where she exercises her wings.

09:51: She returns to the nest - entries have to be rehearsed, you know....

Image

09:53: Back onto central branch - and from there, to a branch at the right!

I find Andris is one of the most handsome LSE males, and I'm always happy when I 'm able to get some pics. - He is looking around, securing the prey and calling Ieva.

Look at Ieva - she looks changed, strong and determined.

And happily cutting her mole.

17:44 ff.: Ieva plays on the center branch.

Image

Image

17:52: And flies to the left branch, where she spends quite a while, preening, PS, etc.
20:03: She has a cunning plan: to fly from the branch at the left up into the spruce of the left trunk (the left 'pillar' of the nest).

20:21: She plops down onto the nest. - YT-chat :hi: Baiba, quote: "7:25  PM Baiba Piezemēšanās briesmīga gar stumbru" - GT:"Landing terrible along the trunk". - Yep. She will learn to do it better!

Image

21:40: Anna comes home. Ieva is delighted.

Image

Anna cleans up the nest, finds some remainders of either pellets or prey which she eats up.
