:hi:

11:47 FINALLY Ivo brings the longed for fish
Image

11:48 a big chunk of the huge fish lands in one little beak
Image

11:49 Iiris feeds the two begging chicks and Ivo is watching
Image

11:51 it seems that also the second chick gets a few morsels into its beak,
not quite sure to say, because the chicks are sitting with their backs to the cam,
but from movement of head i think it has eaten, too.
The chick on the right was able to swallow some big chunks.

Feeding looked promising, Iiris is getting better and better

11:52 Ivo flies off to the right

11:55 yes, also the chick on the left ate some good smaller pieces
Iiris is feeding well.

If Ivo hadn't a ring ED, I wouldn't believe it's him.
Maybe Iiris spoiled him by often bringing fish for her incubating mate. :puzzled:

Ivo`s behavior gives me puzzles.
We all know that Irma was a special eagle lady and that he had a very good teacher. Liris has other qualities, is much quieter and more restrained. However, I can not imagine that the different characteristics are the cause of his behavior.
He is a talented fisherman and took care of his nest for the past few years. Also, he used to sit on the dead tree under Irma, which I can not watch so often this season.
What's up with Ivo? :puzzled:

12:01 Iiris dragged the fish close to the chicks, offers fish again and again but the chicks don't want to eat anymore, what they want is to be protected from the sun. It must be very hot, they make the "chuck-chuck" sounds and pant

Image

and Iiris gives them shade
Image

12:02 Iiris shades the chicks, the egg - and the fish :D

Mogga, thank you very much for the video. :2thumbsup: It was a pleasant surprise that Ivo stayed for such a long time to watch the feeding.
14:25
After eating Iiris flew to the loo and came shortly back.

13:00 Ivo came to sit on the dead tree
Image

i had the impression that Iiris from then on felt more comfortable with Ivo on the dead tree - before she seemed to be a bit nervous and insecure (just a guess).

14:09 both chicks are awaiting food, both are attentive and lively
one has his winglet on the egg :D

Thank you all for reporting and pictures!
I have been a little unsure with watching the cam because it seemed in the beginning, that the feedings have not been really perfect. It is nice to read, that improvement happens all the time. I wish so deeply that Iiris learns to call and demand fish from Ivo - that was so excellent with Irma, she knew what was essential in the nest life. It is nice to see Iiris learning ...

Btw in the neighbor nest (Miina and Marko) both parents feed the chicks, it is sweet to see. So did Latvian ospreys 2014 Lauma and Perkons - sometimes in a row: Lauma to Perkons, Perkons to the chicks

What's going on with Ivo? He sits by the dead tree, waits until Iiris leaves the nest for a short moment, flies to the nest and takes the remaining fish and flies away (the same behaviour happened yesterday). When Iiris returns, she immediately notices that the fish is gone.

I'm happy. Yes, "happy" is the right word that Ivo brought such a big fish with the head which lasts for the whole day. Iiris is a lot more placid too. Thank you all who put pics to my comments or make videos of what I see on the nest.
ED: Ivo when you took the remains of the old fish, you'll have to bring a fresh one immediatley!

Hello everybody :hi:

What a joy, we have already two hatchlings on the nest, they got the first few morsels of fish and their digestion system can make the change from "inside-egg-nutrition" to "outside-egg-nutrition" and I think it is the best way to let this happen with a slow increase of "outside-food".

Iiris has already got more practice to meet the little beaks and she will be nearly perfect until the third hatchling will appear. Has anyone already heard egg talk from the third egg?

About Ivo taking the fish away from the nest --- he did this also sometimes in previous years and I suppose one aspect of this action is an aspect of safety.
Much fish on the nest could attract fish thieves looking for "cheap" food, such like Hooded Crows and other ones who would not say "NO" to easy fish and they even could be a danger for the still very small osprets.

And on these warm days a fresh and still "wet" fish is surely the best food for the little ones, instead of a quickly drying out fish on the nest rim for hours.

Stay positive and trustful that everything will find its way :shake:

15:31 Iiris returns to the nest
Image

she is astonished, where is the fish ? she softly chirps
Image

Iiris immediately is taking care of her chicks, covers them and also rolls the egg.
She turns out to be a good loving Mom

16:05 Iiris is patiently caring and waiting for the next fresh fish that Ivo will bring for sure

Bea: „Stay positive and trustful that everything will find its way“

Wise words Bea. Isn‘t it wonderful how the birds manage everything, whether they're experienced or beginners in caring for their hatchlings. Why not trust in nature an watch relaxed, how things are happen?
