Yes, the silhouette looks like that of a cuckoo. (I looked it up)

Edit:

Yesterday... how appropriate.

In this video you can hear the male and the female cawing. Females do not use the 'kuck - kuck'. males only.

Optically/acoustically good mixture sparrowhawk/owl.

Warm greetings to you!
You are all great here! :2thumbsup:

OrniTrack information

Quickly today.

Today Karl II flew 123 km.
Battery level: 100% :2thumbsup:

Karl II spent the night in a tree at the edge of a forest, not far from where I suspect the fish basket is (not sure!). His working day started in that area at a little past 5 am.

Today, he visited twice the above mentioned place, about 9 km from the nest.
What can I say about that area? It is a meandering brooklet - partly on the edge of a forest and an agricultural area, partly in a forest - which at one point runs under a street/path, and further on flows into (or out of?) a lake.

He also visited a brook that connects two lakes, about 17 km from the nest. (It’s where he found all those little fish some time ago) In the same area, he also searched for food along a brook about 4.5 km away from that place (not far from another lake).

And finally I see him making a kind of (not very big) reconnaissance flight, with several short stops at different creeks and brooks.

Today the chicks are respectively 25, 25, and 22 days old and start developing the mohawk hairstyle. 8-)

Polly, many thanks for sharing the beautiful and interesting video, and for your kind words! :2thumbsup:

Swenja, great job, as always!
Karl II is a very patient BS father with nerves of steel and a heart of gold.

See you tomorrow!

01:55 suddenly they were afraid of something. It looks like they heard the dog barking when it became loud and were scared awake.
They quickly calmed down and went back to sleep. :offtobed:

09:23 Kaia comes home

Feeding. Kaia regurgitated once. I could not see how much food it was.

Kaia steps onto the curved branch. The chicks are chattering. They want more food.
Image

Kaia is back in the nest.
#3 looks rather quiet to me. :puzzled:
Image

Kaia jumps onto the balcony. The chicks keep begging...

Kaia on the balcony. The chicks watch her.
Image

Kaia jumps back into the nest. The chicks start begging vigorously.
Image

For a moment it looked as if she was ready to give a second serving. But no.
This is #3. I’m not sure Kaia liked what he did.

No, there was no second serving.
Did Kaia want to pull at #3's head-feathers again and was she prevented from doing so by (the begging of) an older chick? :puzzled:

11:09 Karl II is here
Image

Feeding
Karl II serves a couple of medium-sized fish and a large one.
The chicks grab the fish straight from his beak. #3 is stuck between/under the older chicks.

Image

#1 and #2 are eating. #3 can’t reach the food.

But then there was a back and forth pulling for the large fish. #3 is the chick in the middle.
I thought he would never be able to get that big fish.
Image

But #3 conquered the fish!
Little warrior!

There was not enough room left in his crop for the fish tail :D

13:42 Karl II is back!

Feeding.

Karl II leaves. He was less than a minute on the nest.

Pics later, I’m not at the computer now.
