At 9:25ish something (wasn't paying attention to the time) this morning I came back and saw Anna laying on the eggs and the chick was somewhat off the cover. Anna seemed to be "feeding" the chick with nothing but saliva (or something that came drooling from her mouth). As small birds feed the babies with their vomited food, do the eagles do the same? This came to my mind when seeing this. Previously I've only seen them feeding from pieces of the fish.
No, they don't vomite, but saliva contains enzymes and other things which are important and good for baby. And moisture of course which is essential also. Ame and Mutikluti talked about this yesterday (11:44-11.46 am). :chick:

it is also written, that the fish pices have to be with a lot of saliva, so that the chicks can swallow them

Olga you got a picture of the yawn!
baby has such a pretty pink mouth. :loveshower:

11:52 Uku came and i think he brought a stick with him. Anna got up and kicked the baby topsy-turvy upside down. for a few seconds it waved all its small wings and tiny pink feet in the air, rested for a few seconds and then rolled up.
i have been wondering about the robber mask... are the eyes open yet? or is it like kitten or a dog pup: eyes open after a few days? :puzzled:

yes, Uku had a big stick with him.

She still has to work on it. She happens to drop fish pieces in front of the chick or tries to give the food altough she has nothing in the beak. She is improving these skills, but if I compare it with the way the female in the danish nest fed her chickens in their first days I know how a master feeding should look like :D

Does the male feed the chicks at all? I remember reading somewhere of an incident with Golden Eagle where the female had died accidentally and the male kept on bringing food in to the nest. The chicks where finally found dead and the nest was full of prey beacause the male couldn´t feed the chicks!

Thank you tuomokoo for your video compilation!
You can see more of the behaviour in a video than on pictures alone. Great to see that Uku is very concerned and eager to help with their chick
