We would have noticed if she had given birth in daylight. She hid everything from us.

I looked at 5.5 hours of video in the evening to cut out superfluous. I could not but notice.

Good Morning !

Since the first I was against the 3rd, but after last week's event, I changed "my disc".

As we always say: "Eagles knows better"... If it came - perhaps there is a good reason for it...

We have to pray much that Dad's shop will be full all the time

I already wrote in a chat, I will repeat here.
In 2014 Robert and Durbe had 3 baby birds. All had enough food. In 2015 they had 2 eggs. As far as I know, even was not always enough for one baby bird.
The nature regulates amount of eggs depending on abundance of food. It seems so to me. Though I do not know how it is possible to foreknow it.

2015 - they had 1 egg. The other was damaged by a crow.

2014 - many wars in the nest.

This year eggs came early and this might change the food level:

They'll have more fish

the noisy festival will start later in their season so they won't be disturbed.

Another thing: I am not in chats and this forum is my only "Bible" for this nest

I think, that's not right! It is intended that only one survives in the Eagle Nest. The others will only survive if, enough food is available. Neither Raimis nor Milda know what the season is going to be. They can not predict weather, they also do not know if they can hunt enough food.

Tits, for example, lay many eggs because the loss is very large. Many do not survive the first days.

BTW in 2015, there were quite problems with delivery of fish. Also last year it was very difficult at the beginning. As we saw an almost starved eaglet.

Many luck, that for all three grow up :2thumbsup:

When the nature gave them 2 eggs, she didn't think of crows. She thought how many baby birds can be supported. I will repeat, this my opinion.

Biologists explain it differently! Nature is not like that! Nature has foreseen loss, so they lay more eggs than needed. In every nest.
Lesser spotted eagle.. special, because the the first born chick ensures that only one survives in the nest. That's cainism

EDIT: By the way, we humans used to do it that way too. Many children died of illnesses that no longer exist today. But at that time, a large number of children has ensured that some survived.

we don't know what happened in 2014 other than Durbe and Robert raised three eaglets successfully. that happened in the old nest which was destroyed in the end of the season. they built this nest in the next winter.

in spring 2015 Durbe laid two eggs but a crow ate one of them. in that season there were so much fish that i have never seen so many! twice as much rotted on the nest than the eagles (Durbe and Angelina) could eat. Robert was a great fisher! :headroll:

in 2016 and 2017 were the years when several eagles competed for the possession of this territory.

WTEs are not 'regular' eagles in what comes to sibling rivalry. it is not very pronounced in them. last year's eaglets were exceptionally violent towards each other. i have never seen anything like that before. usually the pecking stops by the age of 10 days - two weeks. sibling rivalry is much more pronounced in 'real' Aquila eagles to the extreme of cainism. in those species usually only one eaglet survives.

the amount of food regulates the egg numbers in owl species. if the female does not get well fed she will be able to lay fewer eggs than in a good vole year. if there is very little food she may not produce any eggs at all. if the food situation continues to be bad or becomes bad after chicks have hatched some of them will starve to death before fledging. even the parents may starve to death in the spring/summer if food supplies vanish.

Yesterday I forgot to turn off live and all night until ~ 2.oo worked with sound. 22.01 was a sound that Milda was moving into the nest. I was especially looking at the clock because I was surprised that Milda was in the dark...

Pukite learned to keep out of her way.
i remember him standing on the far edge of the nest which was hanging down. Makonite was lying in the back side like a queen.
it was the same with Teele and Timmu. Teele lay fat on the nest and Timmu the little brother stood on the rim and looked around. he was clever. :D

when does your recording end in the evening? my recording ends at 21:36.
and when did you start recording this morning? you wrote that you listened from a very early time.

i was thinking that we could ask Mr B to make us a master video of last night from the missing time. then we could look for the sounds of the laying.
