Yesterday evening I visited nest site, briefly. Did not see into the nest, but one of chicks look at me over the nest rim. I suppose other chicks also there. Briefly checked ground under the nest, nothing special found. But I did not want to be found by adults, so made quickly. Thunder storm affected that area, but not much nest site, more trees were broken ca 1-1,5km away, where I had to leave car this time. Short control shows problems with one of WiFi devices (Mikrotik) we use for signal transfer. The system is a bit too complicated for me there in terms of network, so need to wait for specialist opinion before acting somehow. I need to be away in other field works up to end of month, so missing of transmission can last a bit more.

OrniTrack MORNING information

Karl II spent the night at the place where we saw him yesterday evening, at the edge of a forest, less than 2 km from the nest.

At 04:05 he started his working day and flew to a feeding site, speed 43 km/h.
At 05:15 he was on the nest.

Immediately after feeding his chicks, he went fishing again.
At 10:25 he was on the nest a second time.

He has visited 2 different feeding places so far.
One at a brook about 4.5 km from the nest.
And another one at a ditch in a forest at about 6.5 km from the nest.


OrniTrack EVENING information

(The morning information stopped at 10:30)

Karl II flies to a feeding site about 7.7 km from the nest, a slightly wider watercourse in a forest.
He does not stay long there and flies to the well-known brook at about 4.5 km from the nest. He stays there between 11:55 and 12:45.
Then he flies to another feeding place, along a brooklet about 3.7 km from the nest, gradually moving closer and closer to the nest, between 13:00 and 14:30.
At 14:35, he is at 400 meters from the nest, in flight towards the nest, speed 45 km/h
Around 14:36, he was (most probably) on the nest.

Then he continues to search for food, further down (another part of) the same brooklet at about 1.2 km from the nest, where we see him between 14:40 and 15:40.
He flies again to the well-known brook at about 4.5 km from the nest and stays there until 16:40.
At 16:45 he is on the nest again.

Then he flies again to the well-known brook at about 4.5 km from the nest.
At 18:45 he visits a ditch and stays there until 20:35.
Then he flies again to that well-known brook at about 4.5 km from the nest, where he stays until 21:15.
At 21:20 he flies to the nest at a speed of 46 km/h.
At 21:25 he is on the nest once more.

Again he flies to that well-known brook at about 4.5 km from the nest, where he stays until the last known data (22:35).


Today, Karl II flew 96.2 km.
He worked for almost 18 hours today!
Karl II fed his storklets 5 times.

Ornitrack MORNING information

As the battery level of Karl II's transmitter has currently dropped below 75% (now 73%), we see the different locations with a 15-minute interval. (This is a device setting in OrniTrack.) It makes it difficult to see when he has been at the nest. In 15 minutes he may have flown many 'unnoticed' kilometres (easily 10 to 15 km!), and therefore, it is possible that we cannot observe (or deduce) some visits to the nest.

Karl II spent the night in a forest near the brook where he was yesterday evening.
Between 04:01 and 06:01 we see him fishing in that brook, about 4.5 km from the nest.
Then he flies towards the nest.
He must have been at the nest between 06:01 and 06:16.

At 06:16 we see him flying at a speed of 39 km/h, close to the nest, in the direction of the nearby brooklet.
There he looks for food between 06:31 and 08:01
Between 08:16 and 08:31 we see him a bit further away.
Then he flies, with a few short stops at small 'ponds' and ditches, in another direction.
Last known data (10:31): Karl II flies at 11 km/h, at about 7.5 km from the nest.

It's funny not being able to look. When the camera is working again, we will probably be amazed at how much they have grown again.
Thanks also to Urmas for checking on the storks to see if everything is in order in and around the nest.

He flies to a small lake about 9 km from the nest and stays there until 11:51.
At 12:06 he flies towards the nest at 53 km/h.
At approximately 12:18 he probably visits the nest.

He visits the brooklet close to the nest between 12:26 and 12:36.
Then he flies on to the well-known brook at 4.5 km from the nest.
At 13:06 he returns to the nest at a speed of 50 km/h.
At 13:10 he is already back on the nest.

At 13:11 he flies a long way, to a wider watercourse at about 16 km from the nest. There he stays until 15:31.
At 15:36 he leaves again towards the nest.
Between 16:11 and 16:46 he visits a marshy(?) small clearing in the forest, 1.7 km from the nest.
Around 16:51 he is on the nest.

He flies to a marshy area about 3 km from the nest and stays there until 18:16.
At about 18:22 he is on the nest.

He returns to the small lake about 9 km from the nest.
At 22:36 (last known data) he is still there.

Today, Karl II flew 102 km.
Current battery level: 78 %
