Welcome back, noli.
Good to know we have your support too.
I hope to be able to post some news soon. It will be only "first steps" news.

Thanks to all who have expressed interest in contributing to the cost of a transmitter.
Next step is to find a good fund-raising web-site to make proper collection possible.,
Due to the great variety if nations represented here, it needs to be an English language site. I have seen
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding ... m=gofundme
and
https://uk.gofundme.com/?pc=thrive_bing ... 6326752033_

We need to write an interesting story line of why we want the funds, for what purpose, with what expected outcome. There needs to be a deadline, too.
Does anyone here have experience of this kind of fund-raising? If so, please say.

We are not using either Looduskalender or Kotkaklubi for this project as it is not an "official" (approved, seconded and passed by committee) event. This wish to follow the life of a young black stork is the motivation for our hopes. We, forum members, and Urmas, must be the driving force.

Any volunteers to write the opening story will be welcomed with open arms!
Anyone who knows a better way to collect funds , also welcome.
In the past, I have collected donations in to my Paypal account, with the oversight of other admins (to protect my integrity) I am willing to do that again but that will restrict the donor field. Using a website will increase the number of people who will see the request.

According to the updated migration map Karl is in Latvia already.
A safe and fish-abundant migration to Karl, Kati, Uno, Usin and Tali! Our thoughts are also with the youngest ....

I found a request for a transmitter (for an eagle) on the GoFundMe site.
They collected nearly 950 euro.
So it's not impossible!

Jo, why we want the funds, for what purpose, with what expected outcome?
Who could explain and formulate this better than Urmas himself... and you? :D

If all of us, forum members and guests, would post the final donation link on social media, like Facebook (and on websites/chats from people or organizations who really care about nature, animals and birds) we could surely help Jo by making a lot of publicity for this fund raising!

I'm so happy Karl is on his way now, and we can follow him on his journey! :shake:
Thanks for telling us, Summi!

Thanks, Anne7 It is encouraging to know that a similar fund-raisng event was successful!

I am still looking into the terms and conditions of Go Fund Me and also Just Giving.
Go Fund me will charge something like 8% of donations.
Just Giving will charge 5% PLUS credit card fees. Also, I saw a reference to a time limit "when your 30 days are up - -" I am leaning towards Go Fund Me, but I don't know everything yet!

Anne7, you asked about who will describe the reasons for the fund raising requests.
Urmas has said he can help with the introduction. So that is the best solution to that part of the discussion.

Attention, I write with translator! I agree with Anne7 completely. Paypal would not be a problem for me, but Fund Me is good with 8%. I give 8% more, no problem.

I hope I am properly understood!

I will not know what happened with storklets - the risk of loss is very, very high - mortality during the 1st year of life is larger than 80% (or the transmitters working not properly). It is hard (see data on movebank about BS with transmitter or only on goris about the Latvian BS ). I will hope that Uno, Usin and Tali are O.K.

Thank you UteL. We understand you clearly. So whatever our target figure is going to be, we should add 8% to account for charges. That's clear, and easy enough.

@Solo, the youngest storklet was the fourth one, the smallest and the weakest that Kati decided to kill. She put it on the far side nestrim and probably it has become a part of the nest. The same happened last year and I never forget them, though I accept it.

Summi, I know that, I followed also this nest. This big mortality rate is for all storklets in first year. A lot of them perish just during migration and in Africa

You're absolutely right, Solo. It's heartbreaking to watch birds with transmitters disappear. On the other hand I think, this is the only way to learn more about their migration. And we can only engage in better protection, if we know, where they go and where they spend their time.

I am still looking into crowd-funding websites. Earlier, I said that I was leaning towards GoFundMe. Now I am leaning away from it!
So many bad reviews - many more bad, than good reviews.
Somewhere, there is a good one. I am still looking.
Does ayone one know of a reputable fund-raising site?

Good Morning!

leetchi.com sounds very good. I'm not know, if it is also in english available. It has many good reviews and is unexpensive!
I'm not able to put a link here.. I use my Tablet.

2.9 - 4% costs. Collect under 2000€ it cots 4% - more than 2000€ it costs 2.9%

Can someone check this side? I have no time for it. I'm still on vacation!

If we found a good side and all is OK, I will put the Link with a nice video from our Stork family on my Youtube channel on the side for visitors.

Thank you, Liz and Juta.
I saw Leetchi last night and will investigate it further today. I like its fee structure. That is the least expensive site so far.
Yes, it seems to be suitable for UK use.

Liz, enjoy your holiday. Your offer of help with videos and publicity is very welcome. We are narrowing the field of possible sites - Leetchi or ammado
https://www.ammado.com/
Still investigating -
