8:32 Kaupo is incubating

also interesting:
The development of the chick begins with the cell division immediately after the fertilization of the Eggs inside the hen. As soon as the egg is laid, however, the development stops until the egg will be incubated.

The eggs of a clutch are laid into a serie, which a laying break follows, which depending on Bird species is different. For most songbirds, it is 24 hours, with egrets, Storks, pigeons and some small birds. For birds of prey 48 hours. For large birds of prey it can even take several days.

I've the source.. if someone is interested...I can put an link.

I hope the translation is good enough to understand it ..

No we have not! Only Maris Strazds. The equipment was stolen. The nest is now known. You can not bring equipment to the forest. It would be stolen again.

:hi: to all
The nests with four flecged chicks were in Italy, in Portugal, in Estonia(Tiit and Tiina), but it depends on parents' instinct.

asteria, TY, but not only this nests - I saw photos also from HU (also Tóbias), but I saw photo and read info about another BS nest in HU with 4 fledged storklets ... but it is probably very rarely

A few years ago I saw pictures from the nest with 5 and even 6 storklets, so it is possible.

14:38 Kaupo came home
14:40 Gaja takes a break

Four Storklets are very rare- I saw pictures with five, but on of them was later selected.

I found it again..
it is a good description, or an attempt to explain why the chicks are killed. And the difference why some birds let starve their chicks and the storks throw the chicks out of the nest.
They throw them because they have no control over food allocation. All eat when the food is in the nest...

later more
