Solo, by the way, did you ask Urmas about the frayed feathers of the storklets?
I wrote to him earlier, this was not up to date yet (yesterday I just reminded him)
and now (today), out of joy, I thanked only very much and asked nothing
- on July 12 the youngest/fourth chick (Benjamin) perished 25 day old (unknown reason) - on July 16 the chicks got ring (7181,7182,7183) and the body was removed for examination
- on August 06 female Janika was last seen on the nest (feeding at 16.14 )
- on August 14 all three storklets got transmitter in the late evening (and huge amount of frozen fishes)
Jan in at 13:26:36
1/ 13.26 FEEDING by Jan - little pile of little fishes for big storklets (video by redenhofer https://youtu.be/CIyUPo64fTk)
- chicks alone: from 13:26:49 (Jan out) to 17:49:17
2/ 17.49 FEEDING by Jan - (maybe) little pile of little fishes for big storklets (video by redenhofer https://youtu.be/rNIpdrc9D5Y)
- chicks alone: from 17:49:23 (Jan out) to

There was a question about white stripes on primary feathers.
I did not check those if hold chicks in hand, forgot during installation of transmitters. But think these whitish stripes are most probably residues of feather sheaths, which did not fall away, yet. Usually those disappear if feather grows, but sometimes not so quickly. I did not look these close by. Trackers installing was in darkness, so no more information from that time. Maybe it was too dry in time of extensive feather growth?

Quite often people ask - when they start to fly?
As written by several people, there are mean space of age when they have been fledged. That depends also of weather. As you probably noticed, chicks become more active if sun will shine and less clouds. With wet feathers there is not good to start first attempts of flights, also if crashed even more wet they become from undergrowth bushes and other vegetation. Thinking in evolutionary scale, start of flights is important part of independent life. If mistakes happen, less possibilities to experience next challenges. To avoid mistakes, all (probably not fully known for us) conditions should be nearly perfect - body condition, health, dry weather, enough free space around the nest, suitable old trees to fly on, no predators nearby, no accidental injuries, etc. But as we know, nothing perfect in nature, always something changes and those who can cope with those changes, they survive.
