This is no film, no Disney world, this is nature. And nature is very often cruel, when most of the young animals loose their life in their first year. One has to accept that while looking at nature's doings.asteria wrote: July 18th, 2019, 6:30 pm That is exactly what I call "Jason Treborn position". I prefer his son Evan. He won finally.

Total currently about ospreys:
- one nest was abandoned by the male during incubation the female eggs (presumably the hawk "helped" the male did not return to the nest, or was an unsuccessful fishing) - minus 3 eggs/chicks;
- one nest was completely destroyed by a hawk or minus 3 chicks;
- another nest completely destroyed by the hawk - minus 3 chicks and minus one parents also;
- in this nest it is not known how the egg went missing, and after a hawk took one of chick - minus 2 chicks...
It turns out lost 12 ospreys only for a season!
Apparently, this is not the end. Guys, we need to save the osprey! It seems their population has declined this year.

Just do not tell me what nature is cruel, I know this firsthand.

Why do you think that the osprey population is declining? Couldn't it be the normal loss of young birds every year? And because we have more nest cams we just see more of that.
All comments here are not necessarily scientific reports - if ever

Better not to count missed eggs, only chicks and adult birds. In Poland nest with two osprets one egg has not hatched, should we count it too?Poliff wrote: July 18th, 2019, 7:31 pm Total currently about ospreys:

It is about your position, not about the movie(which is also cruel enough and has nothing to do with Disney world). It is the same with Jason.

So sorry, just sad with all ospreys friends.There is a lack of words about how mercilessly wildlife treats innocent birds.

It's not the place of humans to interfere with the relationship of animal species unless humans have created the problem in the first place. (By say, introducing a predator that doesn't belong, or compromising the environment so that the population of a species suffers.) Goshawks have been eating ospreys and ospreys have survived fine for a much longer time than what humans have been around to watch them. We shouldn't take sides unless we've created a mess in the first place. It would be like preventing the ospreys from getting fish.

I have watched over 10 years the photos of the nature that people have taken at the address https://ilm.ee/. The last two years there have been strikingly more photos of the goshawks taken at Mustamäe, the residential district of Tallinn. I have asked myself why they are in a big city and why there seem to be more of them. Of course, this is not statistics but still something which is noticeable.Bea wrote: July 18th, 2019, 6:03 pm °°°°
Just questions come to my mind.
Does the amount of Goshawks increase? If yes, then why?
