Hello everyone
after night resting our couple started the day with short preening, nest restoration (unsuccessful mating attempt)
the first time I saw our female sitting in the nest (the male immediately poked her with his beak and so she got up)
female is sitting
male is sitting

female flew out 05.44, male later - at 06.25
male flew back, he is also today morning busy - out and back with twigs, moss, ...
now he is resting in this cosy nest
09.40 the nest restoration continuing (short, rest continuing )
weather forecast is not favourable: cold - below 10 degrees and rainy, windy

thank you Anne - I didn't edit the GT translation, I had to leave then
the text and it's translation belongs to the thread "Black Stork nests in Latvia", nest in Sigulda, which is concerned and therefore it is correct to put only the link here (as I did) - my opinion

Don't worry, Solo.
I didn't correct you, I just attempted to improve the poor (GoogleTranslate) translation.
Since it is a similar situation, and since the text was written by the Latvian Black Stork expert Professor Maris Strazds (and is therefore interesting and relevant), I am pretty sure that it is not a problem to post that text in this topic as well.
Of course, as in all similar situations, there are certainly parallels to be noted (concerning the two nests/areas/conditions and their respective inhabitants), but probably also some differences.

Text Maris writes about Sigulda nest (quite close to Estonian border) is absolutely relevant also here. There is massive shortage of food in commercial forest and agricultural landscape, because of drainage affecting during long time and showing irreversible results by now. Nature was able to cope with first drainage events, but currently it is so much wide scale and repeatedly renewed, therefore causes massive loss of biodiversity in running waters. Even Black Stork using very large territory, is not able to find food anymore.
You can compare situation for creatures in fresh water after renewing of melioration ditches and channels there with continuous heavy dust storm, where you can't see further of your nose...
And that all made for less income per year for the state (from state forest management) as one year expenditure for free transport in Estonia (that last made for to get votes at elections).
We applied project for initiate active protection of Black Stork in Estonia, means preparing of artificial feeding sites on selected territories. Of course, it is not cheap work, but had to be included in environmental taxes of degradation actions formerly. If no knowledge about results, it is better to avoid large scale changes in environment!
Black Stork 2 nest is situated in protected area, but that has been protected quite recently to fill quota for protection of fertile forest types. But just before protection there was performed full renovation of drainage systems, roads built, clear cuts made, etc So it will take long time somebody could say - it is a natural forest in this nature conservation area... Most probably here is needed also active restoration before to leave everything in peace, but also restoration means some "dust storm" in fresh water environment. Probably, this pair feeds outside a protection area with renewed hydrology, but we do not know exactly.
thank you Urmas very much for this information
unfortunately, these problems are in each country to a greater or lesser extent
the proximity of the areas and the similarity of the situation was the reason why I put this info not only in the Sigulda thread (and the GT translation - not all members and visitors use the FB), but also the link to it here
- I had a different opinion only on the location of the translation here (perhaps it is not a problem to click on the link )

12.22 mating
preening, preening
12.34 mating
13.00 and next - nest defending behaviour by both
male calls very loudly
13.05 peace (I hope) ... not, once more
13.11 once more, 13.12 next nest defending behaviour

maybe it is already all right
it isn't peace - 13.20 next defending behaviour
male flew out and in, still very exciting, the defending behaviour continues
for short while it seemed better
13:32 - both take off after another defending

Do you think so?
I clicked on the link, Solo, and by doing so I realised that a new translation was at least desirable.
There are, in fact, a number of very funny things asserted by GT:
- It takes 32 + days to wash eggs ...
- Mare, who was a late child, also divorced on June 2.
- The mom (...), after a feather outfit is a new bird - could say she didn't grow up ...
- ... after a month or salt later when food is needed most of all, everyone will be dry ...
- etc.
GT can be very comical.

Your translation is welcome - and I thanked to you and I wrote why I didn't correct the GT - I went out (here https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 35#p797935)
my remark concerns only to the location of translation to the Latvian BS nest thread
