WOODEK (LODZ) - WHITE
FB BocianiMy: Woodek had very unusual path this days (2017-10-01, 18:56) - more info https://goo.gl/1e8HqX
GT (I made not correction): WHITE under the volcano Valture
Our black stork called WHITE (from the color of the foot transmitter) completely surprised us. Within four days, he defeated 840 km in successively 6 countries: Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy. He set off on 27th September from the lake. Halasto in the protected landscape of Pusztaszeri, left the Hungarian lowland and the river Tisza, where he spent over a month. First, in line with our expectations, it headed through Romania on the SE heading towards the narrow isthmus in Turkey over the Marmara Sea. However, the 28th unexpectedly changed direction to SW and in the evening it was found in wooded mountains with rare pasture 50 km to N from Sarajevo. On the following day he defeated Irgman - a mountain plateau in central Bosnia and Herzegovina - the place of extensive fighting during the siege of Sarajevo in 1992 - reaching there the highest ceiling of his flight about 1484 m n.p.m. On the other hand, yesterday 30, during the day "threw" through the Adriatic flying over the open sea nearly 200 km! It was a very risky move, had to fly active flights, because thermal water chimneys are not produced over water. He probably benefited from the favorable winds that eventually led him to the Apennines of the Valture region of Italy, famed for the extinct volcano Mount Vulture and DOC Aglianico del Vulture. Hey, this stork!

The oldest and most experienced tagged black stork found his death on a dumb power line .... That is sooo sad !

TY for the information, Liz.

(LK writes always dumb power line instead of dumb... It just doesn't write it... perhaps later ... )

Very sorry about Raivo. His transmitters stopped and started working so many times and this year was fatal for him.

Hope Woodek was not the only one chosen such a way to Africa and flies with others. Let it be successful for him.

 Turkey seems to be fatal for storks this year. Somebody shot the tagged black storklet(Backpack). It is also written here that Malwin died because he was ill.

1/ not "this year" (Older): it is about storklet from last year - Lodz/Older + Younger, it's happend in previous autumn
2/ not "because" (Malwin): The bird probably did not stand the hardships of traveling because he could be sick. It was noted that he was sneezing the last day before the flight, when he briefly appeared on the camera seat. (GT) ...it was'nt necropsy

Yes, I got it. There is also a tagged storklet from this year named Plecak(Backpack in English). Here you can see his thread: https://www.facebook.com/BocianiMy/phot ... =3&theater
I am glad that he is OK.

October 10th

LODZ nest - FB news https://goo.gl/YHbYqe (10.10.2017, 08:44) about YOUNGER:
On 2. X. 2017, the YOUNGER left the shallow lake of Eber in central Turkey and began his autumn migration to Africa. Flew through southern Turkey, Syria (this time away from Aleppo), Lebanon, flew back to Syria, rubbed against Damascus, flew over Israel, and landed on the southern tip of Sinai, near the Ras Mahammed National Marine Park. He flew during this stage of autumn migration 1677 km. 9. X. got out of Sinai. It is probably already in Africa - we are waiting for sms with its current location.

WOODEK is in Africa !!! :loveshower:
This crazy guy ! :slap:

He has flown via Sizilia to Tunesia and is now in Niger. Unbelievable ! That was so dangerous !!!

Google translation:
By the Mediterranean and the Sahara sands
2017-10-11
After many days of uncertainty came today SMS from WHITE. It is one of the most interesting documented routes of black stork, so called. Southern Trail. The bird not only flew twice through the open sea (the Adriatic - about 200 km and the Mediterranean - about 160 km), survived the trip through Sicily, but using the windy he found himself in Tunisia and in a few days he covered about 2000 km through the sand of the central Sahara. Today is in Niger, according to the Latin name of Ciconia nigra :) As he will be at the gsm transmitter and dump all the points, we will summarize his crazy and risky journey, although it seems that it is not the end of his journey.

I hope !!!
All the other storks I watched before, who made the same crazy flight via the Mediterranean Sea died, due to exhaustion, because they were not able anymore, to look for a nice place where they could rest and find food and water !!!
I am so worried !

Solo and Baska
So Woodek flew through Sicilia(missing Malta) to Magrib. I am almost sure that he was not the one who chose such a way, he did not lost his way but followed other adult storks. Maybe his parents always fly the same way. At least he didn't fly to Turkey.

Makov: Tonik&Tonichka have big fish for food today.

October 17th

LODZ FB news :loveshower:

YOUNGER finally gave signal! :) He is already in place, in the south of Sudan, exactly where he had wintered a year earlier. From central Turkey Younger flew 2.X. and reached his destination on 16. October 2017. The Sahara flew 200-300 kilometers per day. The longest flight was 11.X. - 351 km. The wintering area on the Nile Blue already he know. It should be easier.
