Hello, Jo :hi:

This is what I think:

This year, Karl reached Lebanon and Syria later than in previous years.
If Karl's is still alive, and only his transmitter is broken, he can (theoretically) reach the nest today or tomorrow.
If Karl returns (soon), I expect a fight.
Presumably, he will not accept this "intruder" on "his" nest and try to chase him away.
Karl will probably try to throw the egg(s) overboard, and try to regain the nest (+ Kati).
How Kati will react is the question. I think, in the end, she will anyway accept the winner (thus the nest).

If Karl isn't still here (early) next week, he probably perished.

EDIT:
i'd like to insert this picture, too, because i like it,
this extraordinary male was rolling the egg in that way that it got between his feet,
i had an idea/thought of he maybe wanted to get close in touch with it :innocent:
(BTW: is their feeling in the bill the same as in the feet or is it different ?)

EDIT:
Anne, Hellem, thank you

but the Youtube link works better!
I think the resolution in http://tv.eenet.ee/must-toonekurg.html is odd (for me). Is it 679x382? Anyway I cannot see the whole stream at the same time (need roll with mouse up and down). My screen resolution is 1920x1080.

15:32 Kati helped herself to get rid of all that straw. She arranged the fresh moss the male has also brought. :D

This guy indeed is a phenomenon. I can't remember that other male storks have been so extraordinary busy in bringing nesting material. Although our Karl also was a particular good and very busy nest builder!

Some more pics

16:52 Kati alone. Maybe the male is gone for fishing. Surely he is hungry after his hard work.

He surely is.

At 16:04 he buried the egg.
I hope that Kati has already pulled it up.

Jo  , I fully agree in what Anne has written. If Karl is alive he should reach the nest in the next 3 days.
In that case I expect a very hard fight for the nest, and I'm no longer sure, if Karl can win this fight. The new male is strong, it has become fully established here in the meantime. He has renovated the nest, he builds a couple with Kati; and now there is an egg. He wouldn't capitulate so easy, would not leave it all behind.

Finding a new territory and a new female would probably not be easy either. Also therefore I think Karl has not the best chances for a successful breeding season.

Padis(in 2009) also worked a lot and made an exellent nest, but nobody came there. And next year a couple of spotted eagles chased him off.

There will be a big fight but I hope the egg won't suffer. Moreover Kati lays one more egg the day before tomorrow and two more eggs on 16th and 18th of April.
