Hello Liz, no , coldness doesn't harm the adult storks at all. The main thing is that they can find food.Liz01 wrote:Baska, this looks bad. But winter is coming back everywhere. You know, whether black storks and White Storks can live with the cold? does it harm the eggs?
And the eggs or even the little chicks can be kept warm by breeding.

Night is falling, all is quiet and peaceful
Missed the nest day. Not home from errands etc. in time.
Thank you for your pictures and posts. They allowed me to read what happened on the nest today.

That looks awful for the poor White Stork.

I have never seen storks - black or white - under a snow cover, only some eagles, who had no problems with it. I hope, these White Storks get over it well and the snow will melt quickly.

I'm so glad that at Katis and Karls nest all is in order and that it's calm and peaceful. Hopefully the weather will be o.k. in further time.
Thank you all for the beautiful pictures and reports! I enjoy always to see our beautiful storks.

I have watched every now and then, and each time the other one of the couple is there, breeding.
It's calm. I saw water drops rolling down over the black raincoat. It's Kati for the moment, incubating half sleep.
It's raining a lot! Or is there close to the nest some river or a creek flooding. I can hear the living voice of water, water, water..
16:49

Oh, she is rolling eggs now! at 16:56..
I missed the screenshot. She is down again.

Olga, I fear there is no river. All we hear is rain. It's bad, that now here too is rainy weather.

Kati on the nest, she stayed brave. Every now and then she closed her eyes, in the next moment she risks a quick look, if all is in order. :-)
19:40 Eyes closed ...

19:41 Eyes open ... She changed it several times a minute.

20:13 Still Kati, she has changed her position.

You can see how looks the area where our nest is located. Pictures are taken during voluntery work to clean black storks feeding areas last autumn.

Good evening from rainy Southern Finland!
I checked tens of pontu pictures after 17:30. It seems that nothing has happened.
Only between 19:08 - 19:09 Kati seems to have changed to the left, also a bit different position!
19:08

19:09 .. is it Kati? Has anyone seen Karl lately

Michi. It makes me feel sorry that the weather is this bad, cold and wet, all over Europe (almost). It's breeding time! It's not fair!
But as long as the Kati's and Karl's 'chicks' stay inside the egg they have no problems! It's just not nice for anyone, especially of course here for Black storks, to be wet for this long time, night and day, day and night..
On Saturday also the weather condition will be better?
It's makes three more cold and wet days and nights
Black storks seem to be patient and mentally calm and balanced beings!

, I feel also very sad for the storks. They come home all the long way from Africa, want to breed here in the north, lay their eggs and now have to bear this very cold and rainy weather. Yes, it is not fair. It breaks ones heart to see them hour by hour in the rain, getting more and more wet. But we can’t do anything. We can only watch. And hope that they stay healthy.
Because of the weather forecast I’ve now looked at more local forecasts, amongst others the one Juta has used already. I fear, the forecast I heard in the earlier evening, was not differentiated enough. There is justified hope that the weather will get better already tomorrow. The forecast says that temperatures will climb up a little, tomorrow up to 8 – 13 °C; the rain will stop at the very early morning and for the rest of the week there is no more rain respectively only a little bit expected.
If this forecast will come true, things will get better a lot. Fingers are crossed for our Storks!
Here the forecast for tomorrow in short form:
