Dear chrisitz, I really understand your sorrow.

We would all be very sad if Karl were dead. We do not know whether he is alive or not. (A silent transmitter says nothing about Karl's condition. The transmitter may have been destroyed along with Karl. For example by electrocution on an electric pole.)

This forum is not about what we want or don't want to see on a nest. We observe what happens and we have to learn to accept things as they are. Animals do not use (the same) morals as humans. If a bird is really late, we cannot expect its partner to wait (forever). Neither we can expect a mourning period. In nature, it is mainly about the survival of the individual + the survival of the species. So when a new suitable partner presents himself, it is understandable that Kati takes this "opportunity" for granted. She flew all the way to Estonia to reproduce. And that's what she's doing now. We should be happy that this new male seems to be a healthy, strong and hardworking stork. That's important for the survival of the storklets.

In my opinion, it would be a pity if Kati's eggs were thrown overboard. There are small storklets growing inside. Moreover, destroying eggs would be a major waste of energy and effort. Producing an egg requires a lot of energy (calcium, minerals, etc ...) from the female's body.

If Karl appears it could become very hard to watch the cam. But even then we will have no influence whatsoever on what happens.

I cross my fingers.

It has been a quiet morning.
I don't know what time Kati left.
Breeding requires a lot of patience, and this male seems to be able to handle this as well.

There is no significance to that date - it is an arbitrary selection.

Is that common behavior among storks that one parent is away for so long, especially when egg has been layed? Shouldnt they have so called shift changes? Maybe male stork is getting hungry by now too

I don't think it is normal behavior, at least I don't remember other parents did the same. Now in Dab nest both storks are in the nest.

we see that in HU nest also time to time (today to)
usually is the change plus/minus after 6 hours

That's sounds good, although I have no date in mind for Karls possible return day.

Yes. I also think think that "Kati" is strange long out of the nest. Don't she find food, has she left "shopping",
or would she have met Karl The First somewhere,which she tries to keep away from the nest.
Karl The Second is probably already hungry, tired to wait, and worried.

Kati is probably enjoying a day off.
I think there is no reason to worry yet. It is not the first time she stays away for so long.
Kati will lay her second egg this night/early morning.
