Hello Poliff,

welcome back! :D

It's Karl II at nest and a young female which arrived on May 1st.
On the LK-Page in an article it is written, that she is too young to breed.
So we will have no storklets this year.

Kati did not return.

Very sorry for Kati and the chicks from the last brood. Let's hope that Karl 2 and the new female form a strong pair.

Today Karl II really tried hard to mate with the brownish girl.
13:43 and again 13:49 he forced her to come down from the curved branch. But both times she refused to mate.

14:12 Karl II is back, singing.

14:13 He flew away again.

14:16 Karl II returned to the nest, alone. He is looking around ... where is the female?

14:17:10 He flew away to the left.

14:17:43 ... and returned.

14:17:53 The female arrived! :D

Well done, Karl II ! :D

Hello, everyone!

Poliff

Many thanks for all beautiful pictures and reports. :2thumbsup:

I didn't watch this morning. I scrolled back and made a couple of pics for you.
It has been a quite busy morning on the nest. I'm very happy that the young lady is back today. :-)

08:10:11 Karl II flies in, singing
08:18:20 His little princess arrives
08:29 Karl II has mating thoughts.
He walks in circles around the nest behind the female who isn’t willing to mate.
08:30 Karl II gives up the idea.
08:38:57 Another mating attempt. Karl II jumps on her back.
08:39:02 The female walks towards the nest edge, and both fall of the nest (into the remains of the old nest?). :slap:
08:39:15 Karl II is back on the nest. You can see the female in the old nest.
Image

08:39:17 The female jumps in.
08:42:21 Karl II lies down in the nest
He gets up. Both preen.
09:30:30 The female jumps onto a lower branch, in the back of the nest.
09:30:56 You can see the female standing on the lower branch.
Image

09:31:03 Karl II lies down in the nest.
09:31:23 The cutie jumps onto the nest
09:35:26 The female jumps again onto the lower branch
09:42:33 She flies away.
09:42:57 Karl II flies after her

08:51 Karl II is back in the nest and sings
09:53 He flies out again

09:57 Karl II is back on the nest, calling
09:58 He flies out again

10:01 He’s back in the nest
10:02 The female arrives
10:41 Again Karl II is walking in circles behind the little female
10:41:38 The female poops over the nest rim
10:45 Karl II continues to walk circles behind the female. She isn’t willing to mate.
10:53:06 The female poops in the nest and flies out to the right
10:53:38 Karl II follows her

11:02 Karl II is back on the nest
11:06 He flies out

11:39:10 Karl II flies in and sings
11:39:18 The female arrives
Both preen
12:05 Karl II lies down in the nest.
12:06:00 The little princess grabs his beak
I don't know why she did that, and I have the impression that Karl II was a bit surprised too.

12:23 The female flies out to the right
12:23:50 Karl II flies away to the left

14:22 Mating attempt, in vain. Karl II danced around the female for quite a while, but she persistently refused to mate.

14:25 Again an attempt.

14:28 Karl II forced her again to come from the curved branch. This time he managed to get on the females back. But it was really short, unsuccessful.

Anne  , many thanks for the detailed report and pictures! That was a lot of work. :2thumbsup:

Hello everybody :hi:

Welcome back Poliff

I read that Karl II and the young lady now try it more often ... that's all nice (practice makes perfect) but not that practice becomes serious ... and then what, then we have to give a bottle.

Sova, in an LK article it’s written, she is „not yet at the age of nesting“.
I don‘t know if this means that she is still unable to produce eggs. But probably yes.

But it would be better if she didn‘t lay eggs.

At 09:35 this morning, one could almost hear Karl II thinking:
"Oh dear, there she goes again... What am I doing wrong?"

Please, is the photo the right size for the forum?

Does this make Karl II look thoughtful in your picture? @Anne7

I loved when Anne7 called her "Cutie". She really is cute. That is very close to "Katie". Now when our new handsome male is Karl II, why not call her Katie, having our beloved Kati in mind.

Hello Swenja! Good to see you!

OK!
So it could also be that Karl II thought: "OMG, what kind of girl did I bring home? She soiled my moss!"
