Thanks for the video! It is great, exiting,I hardly could breath when looking it. The Black Storks there are extremly beautiful, their all movements are art..

Thank heavens he got off the water! I fear it is not easy for a stork to get flying from deep water where they can't use their leggs to get balance and to jump at all. I thought it many times what happens if a young Black Stork falls on water in his first flight - it must be dangerous.

(I saw once a video of an eagle - a big eagle in a canal where water was running fast. It could not do anything but flap wet wings in vain..It was in youtube, a very sad video, it had happened in Spain. Propably some passerby made that video..)

First flights are a bit terrifying to watch.

Those storks must have nerves of steel. I would be scared stiff on a rocky ledge like that, and so far up!

Did the young storks already leave the nest?

I have been on hollidays and haven't seen them but from the comments 2 BS have been seen on the nest 2 or 3 days ago. I will try find more information

I was watching for a while the Black Stork nest in Portas de Rodao. The cam is wide zoomed, but I can see: There are two Ruppel Vultures instead of Black Storks, they are preening there. May be that thay are Griffon Vultures! I remeber that garina do mar told that on the area there is only one single Ruppel Vulture. What majestic birds

Hi everybody

The BS must have left allready: the last time they were seen on the nest was on the 1st September.

Now the cam has become again a vulture cam (as it was at the beggining).
We can see almost everyday (mainly in the beggining of the afternoon) griffon vultures that stop on the several platforms that can be seen through the cam.

The young griffon vulture that was born on the nest that is not seen by the cam goes there everyday to eat and some couples are allready looking for nests for next season. We think that these are new couples as usually old couples stay on the same nest and there are more and more griffon vultures in this area
Let's hope that none of them stays on the BS nest

Anyway, let's also hope that this winter we will have a young griffon vulture on one of the nests that are seen by the cam. They are really cute

Hi, garina do mar! I think there is one young Griffon vulture seen in these pictures with an adult Griffon Vulture!

Here are some pictures of the Griffon Vultures I saw on the BS nest in Portas de Rodao on the 9th September.

These ones are on the BS nest
But they are two adults. We can see by the beak and by the head colour. The young ones have a darker beak and the head is more white. I have to leave now but in the evening I will try to post a pic where we can see the difference

The differences:

The young griffon vulture from last year: it's possible to see the beak much darker as well as the "necklace" and that the head is more white


The young griffon vulture from this year: also a white head and a dark beak
