Raimis? with a fishie!




EDIT: no, it was Milda. she didn't show her tail before feeding was over.

16:58 she began feeding but she is hiding everything behind her back.

Raimis has turned so that Rika is visible. she is eating with good appetite. Mika is behind Raimis.
(i'm not sure if it is Raimis. i'll have to wait till the recording is finished. adios!)

I am confused how to name our eaglets now. Riks has become Rika due to some obvious parameters, that confirm she is female? On Latvian forum Mika is now called Miks (thought to be male). When Mika`s white tuft will vanish, calling either of them will become tricky at least for me

the names are confusing. Riks is a male variant and Mika female. later it has turned out that the older is so big and has so thick ankles that she must be a girl. hence the sex change to Rika.
Mika is the female variant and Miks is male. now it is believed that the younger is a male because he remains so small and his ankles are relatively thin.
i have called the senior Rika for a week because to me she looked so much like a girl already then. DDF changed their minds a bit later. about Mika i am still not quite sure. i'd like to see his/her ankles develop a bit further. so i still call him/her Mika (which is a male name in Finnish, so i am happy with the name Mika either way) although he is probably Miks, i.e. a boy. confused?

on the whole the question about sexes is
a) quite irrelevant in their age and
b) we shall never know for sure.

i have realised that i was very lucky to call them Big and Small in the titles of my videos because the size difference seems to be stable.

19:01 a bird flew by and the eaglets looked at it. right after a nutcracker called but i'm not at all sure that they were the same bird.
19:04 a wood pigeon flew to the tree on the right.
19:07 the wood pigeon flew away.

19:08 an eagle flew from the direction of the swan pond, high in the sky, followed by a crow.


the eagle landed on the top of the spruce on the right side. i had to be one of the parent (probably Milda).


19:16 Rika pooped. then she made WE.

19:20 Mika pooped.


19:26 the parent flew away from the spruce top.

20:29 Mika went to the back of the nest as if to toilet but he didn't make a PS.
Rika "rolled the egg", meaning that he was digging the nest bottom and happened to move the egg, too.


20:31 both worked with sticks.

20:45 Milda came home. she brought a stick.


she put it on top of the eaglets' backs.


the eaglets dropped the stick. Milda looked down "oh no, there it went!"

she went to the top branch.

Rika and Mika sound reasonable for the time being and let`s see, what surprises Big and Small have for us in the near future

well that was interesting, as well as a kind of a relief. it is nice not to have the egg around any more.

the egg seemed to be broken already when Rika got up and showed it. then both nibbled and ate pieces of the shell.

i looked back to see when the egg was still whole.
i think i found it. Rika stepped on the egg when all were looking down where Milda's stick dropped.


20:49:10 Rika stepped again on the egg. it was possibly already crushed then.


21:03 the egg was certainly broken. Mika yawned.
