ame wrote: April 6th, 2019, 6:09 pm i got a reply from Urmas about this eagle.

the eagle has stayed practically at home.
it's 5 calendar years old, almost mature. it's probably looking for a territory with serious intentions.
Thanks for the answers

Everybody's impatient?

If Ivo comes very, very early (as in 2017) it will be in 5 days... :whistling:

On the other hand: Osprey Vova is now already at the border Latvia-Belarus.

Polly wrote: April 6th, 2019, 6:37 pm ...ame, for my knowledge - what does "stayed at home" mean?..
Unfortunately I can't estimate how big a territory of a sea eagle is. Or an eagle owl or an osprey.
...
i'm sorry that i wrote a bit ambiguously. i meant the eagle was seen fairly close to its hatching nest.

some WTEs have been equipped with satellite transmitters (especially in Finland) the data show that different eagles behave differently. some stay fairly close to the native nest (at a distance of about 100 km - 200 km). others may travel over really long distances and make long tours. sometimes they return to the starting point (almost). the next year they may take the same tour as the previous year or may travel somewhere else. these migrations take place before the eagles mature and find a stable territory.

we had at the Durbe WTE nest an eagle who was seen there for 11 (or 12) times during the 2 years when the nest was uninhabited. (~ something like that). this eagle hatched near to this nest (less than 100 km away; don't hang me if i don't remember the details exactly right).

Women can do that.

It is nice to finally read you again mogga! :loveshower:
Ps: still no release for the nest of Mati and the beautiful bird chirping.

Well, many Ospreys are already at home and we have already seen Ospreys here on the dead tree.
Why not Ivo too?

I can only speak for myself but I am not about rearing. I am more interested in whether he is well.
I like to see him. He is a great osprey.

Maybe you mixed something up? Vova is osprey from Belarus.

Wow, these numbers just surprise me.
If quite near 100 - 200km are... . I have completely misjudged it!
Thank you ame! Your answer just enriched me a lot. I had expected the area around the slip nest to be much smaller. Maybe 50km.... .

So it doesn't surprise me that we young birds hardly or never see or hear also only coincidentally.

Thank you very much! :2thumbsup:

You can google a lot but often it is confusing or not clear or not understandable at all.
This forum is much more educational.

thank you Polly!

WTEs may travel very long distances during the years it takes for them to mature, thousands of kilometers. 5 - 6 years is a long time.
it is not certain at all that they settle to breed in the region where they hatched.

i you want to read more about the Finnish satellite WTEs then check this page of the Natural History Museum of Finland:
https://luomus.fi/en/finnish-white-tail ... e-tracking
if you click the name of an eagle you'll get to the page where you can see maps of the travels of that bird.

Good Morning!
Liz,
Since first arrival, I only try to imagine "Angelina" as an adult like this one.

They were born on the same season. I hope she's alive and has a nest and a boyfriend :rotf:
Hard to think that soon she can be MOM Durbertina

Thank you very much in advance    :loveshower:
