14:57 Mrs E began to call softly and looked excited...
then Mr E sang to her from some distance. i guess that he is or was in some tree rather near to the nest.

i have now checked the Pontu pictures and video from the early morning. it seems that Mr E was in the nest when the Pontu camera started at 6:16.
in the Pontu video one can hear them making conversation much earlier in the dark. at 5:47 there was some soft calling... then at 5:52 there was a sound of wings: someone came home.
at a minute to 6 there was a rustle of feathers and this was followed by some more singing: both eagles sang together at least at about 6:02:30. then Mr E called twice more and maybe after the last call at 6:03 the is a sound of leaving wings, but i'm not sure.
i made one clip where i adjusted the brightness and contrast to almost maximum in hope of making them visible, but i can only hear and in the end see only Mr E emerging from the darkness. i could not hear when Mrs E took off, but she was gone by the time it was light enought to see.
these are a curious couple: they are awake and so active in the dark.

Mrs E has been fighting against falling asleep for quite some time now, not with very good success.
that is what one gets from getting up before 6 in the morning.

Eagle conversation, I think I can see both eagles on the nest in the darkness.
Have you noticed that they overnight together in the nest?

oh they do? how can you know that, Owlie? i have had the feeling that they might be somewhere near the nest but i haven't been able to see them togethere in the nest. especially now thgat they have eggs one of them is on the eggs almost all of the time, but both of them in the nest, that i think would be exceptional. the Danish couple lie in their nest together but i think that must be because the female likes to stay there because of her foot injury.

at 7 pm i heard some loud eagle talk but i was unable to come and see what it was about...
EDIT:that was Sartas who called at something flying above.
the last change was at 20:30. Lubana came in and Sartas left.

I don't know at all - I asked whether some of you have noticed them overnight together in the nest. But I am pretty sure I saw two white tails in the darkness that moment and was just wondering do they stay there whole night. I was not watching very long as it was already dark.

as far as i have noticed the adult eagles don't stay in the nest in the nights, especially not together. the exception is when one of them is incubating as now, and when the chick are small and need protection against cold, rain and predators. when the thermo regulation of the chicks works and they are big enough then both parents will roost on some branch near the nest. last summer in June Linda fell quite often asleep in the nest next to Illimar, but at some point in the night she had changed place to the nearby branch and was sleeping there when morning came.
it's a very interesting observation that you saw two white tails in the nest in the dark here. i guess that they were still busy in their evening business. one indication is that you heard them talking to each other, too. my guess is that later one of them got up on a branch nearby. roosting on a branch is the normal sleeping position of birds.
these two are such night-owls that it's almost impossible to know what they do in the dark. i have made some videos with brightness and contrast set to maximum to be able to see at least something in addition to hearing some whizzes of wings but it's so difficult! it's almost the same as guessing.

Mr E has some hay and/or feathers hanging on his beak. that doesn't make him look very clever.
a wood pidgeon is calling in the forest. it makes a HO-Hoo-ho-Hoo - hoo- hoo-ho -Ho! voice. this voice was a mystery to me for a long time. i thought it was some owl calling in the daytime. then i realized that it was a wood pidgeon and not any owl. this was in the old times when they were much more rare in Finland. in the past 10-15 years they have become city birds and nowadays all Finnish cities are full of them.

is that Mrs E at home now? both eagles called a little. it sounded like the male sang outside the nest somewhere not far. the bird on the nest sounded like the female.

12:27 again the eagle on the nest (female?) called a few times and the male (?) replied to her. he is somewhere nearby.
there was something interesting up in the air above the nest.

yes, it is Mrs E at home. she got up to turn the eggs.
i guess that she isn't very old yet, because her petticoat still has dark laces (the feathers under her tail are not pure white yet, but have dark borders).

13:12 a willow tit was near the nest making voices. willow tit and marsh tit look very similar but their voices are quite different. the nearly identical looks made it difficult to identify which one of them visitedat the birdfeeder last winter. if one can hear them talk then the chioce is easy. this is a voice sample of a willow tit.
at 13:16 the eagles talked again a little to each other. the male's voice 'seems' to come from the same place every time.
