A brilliant start to the day - Maya has laid egg number three!
Whilst we were tucked away in bed this morning, Maya made sure we had exciting news to wake up to. At 05:00 we got our first glimpse of the three eggs which, since then, Maya and 33 have been taking it in turns to keep them nice and warm on this misty start to the morning.

Intruder Alert
We had an interesting moment on the Manton Bay nest earlier when an intruding Osprey briefly landed on the nest (landed on Maya to be specific). It looks like the intruding Osprey was 3AY, a bird known to the Rutland area, and 33(11) quickly saw him off.
Maya and 33(11) continue to incubate the 3 eggs that are on the nest, and we are waiting to see if a 4th egg will follow. 3 eggs are the average for an Osprey nest but it’s not uncommon for them to lay 4.

What a wonderful start to a beautiful Friday. Maya has laid her 4th egg of the season.
We couldn’t ask for a better spring day and it’s so lovely to see both Maya and 33(11) on the nest together at times. It’s fantastic to see 4 eggs and we will now wait until early/mid May time to hopefully see the first one hatch.

It's always fantastic to have Osprey sightings - and what a special bird to be here, too! 5H1 fledged from the Poole Harbour nest and is the offspring of CJ7, a female Osprey born in the Rutland area.
We're very excited to follow her progress this year and finger's crossed she has a brilliant season ahead of her.

We’ve had a wonderful Osprey sighting reported from Nottinghamshire. 2023 Manton Bay chick, 3H3, has been photographed near Besthorpe Nature Reserve. Massive thank you to Rob Currie for the report and picture.

Young Osprey won’t return from migration for the first year of their lives, so this will be the first time 3H3 will have returned to the UK having left in 2023.

Many thanks webcam watchers for highlighting this to us….. The first 2-year old Osprey of the season appeared today, sadly not one of ours, but in fact yet another Rutland female from the 2023 Manton Bay nest ‘3H3’ !!

Today is day 26 since the first of our 4 Osprey eggs were laid on the Manton Bay nest
- 2nd April
- 5th April
- 8th April
- 11th April
That means it should now be less than 2 weeks until we see the first one hatch. It’s around 35-42 between laying and hatching, so the earliest we would be expecting the first is the 7th May.
Both Maya and 33(11) are continuing to incubate the eggs (and also enjoying the glorious weather).

3H3, the young Manton Bay female Osprey from 2023, has been seen once again, this time at Kielder Forest. Thank you very much to Joanna Dailey and Forestry England for the report and pictures.
Last week we reported that she had been seen in Nottinghamshire. Not long after we had posted she was then seen intruding on the nest down at Poole Harbour (where another Rutland female CJ7 has been successfully breeding since 2022).
It looks like 3H3 is now touring the UK so we are excited to see where she might go next. Female Osprey tend to travel further when looking for their first nesting site, whereas males are more likely to return close to where they were born.

It’s been a warm and sunny few days at the nature reserve, and our resident ospreys, Maya and 33(11), have been taking full advantage of the weather! The pair have been sharing incubation duties, giving us fantastic views of their four eggs during changeovers.
As we approach the expected hatching window - just over a week away - we’ll be keeping a close eye on the nest for those first exciting signs of activity. In the final days, Maya often becomes more restless, frequently checking the eggs as hatching nears.
The first clue that a chick is on its way? A tiny hole in the eggshell, created from the inside by the chick using its egg tooth, which is a small, sharp tool that acts like a built-in chisel. This fascinating feature falls off not long after the chick hatches.
Stay tuned for updates, or come and visit the Manton Bay nest in person at the Lyndon side of the nature reserve. We'll be open across the Bank Holiday weekend.

3H3's UK Tour Continues!
We’re excited to bring you the latest on the 2023 Manton Bay female, known as 3H3 - and her UK journey just got even more interesting!
At 15:14 yesterday, she was spotted on the nest at Cors Dyfi Reserve in Wales — an exciting moment captured by the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s Live Cam. Huge thanks to the team at Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust for the report and the brilliant images!

First Chick of 2025 Hatches at Manton Bay
At approximately 20:55 last night, the first chick of the season hatched at the Manton Bay nest. This marks an important and exciting milestone for the pair.
The coming days will be very important for the chick as Osprey chicks develop rapidly, and even in the space of a few hours, noticeable changes can be seen. You can follow the chick’s early progress via our Manton Bay Nest Live Cam on YouTube.
The Lyndon Visitor Centre is open all weekend, and with this first hatching of the season, it’s a great opportunity to visit and learn more about these remarkable birds.

The second chick has hatched!
Some more fantastic news on another beautiful sunny morning - the second Manton Bay chick has hatched! First signs of hatching were spotted in the early hours of the morning shortly after 4:30, with the first glimpses of the chick being seen at around 5:00. These chicks will grow quickly, and the number of fish deliveries to the nest will increase to feed the extra hungry mouths.
