19:15 3 birds in the sky.
Is the 3rd a crow?? The female went out after it.

For this female I would say all in all concerning her behaviour that she had no breeding season yet. Not only as far as mating is concerned (which gets better, seems to me!).

Good evening, everyone!
And first of all thank you for your reports. =)
@Sunshine... again great pictures about the day! Thanks for that! They are often so expressive, that you just look at them and are lost and don't think about the excitement around the nest anymore. ❤
I like the girl very much.
I am still connected with Irma but Ivo would have found a great partner with the new girl.
She is instinctively very skilled. Dealing with Ivo, building nests ... In dangerous situations.
So my feeling. I am not an expert. Correct me gladly!
The unsuccessful pairings are for my feeling half also on Ivo's account. Somehow he doesn't really try hard and seems bored.
However, the photos of Ivo and the girl on which he enjoys the beautiful view - they become legendary.
20:42
Ivo and his girl end up in the nest.
She immediately starts working in the nest.
20:44
Look Look...

20:46
Ivo helps.

She says: 'Ivo, there is a complicated stick here.'
Ivo says: 'I got this.'
Working on the complicated stick commences.
20.52
Mating. Looked good, I think.

Then again, two (?) more mating attempts that weren't successful.

So you agree that counts as a successful mating? I'm glad, I was starting to worry if they ever were going to find out what to do...

As far as I know, mating isn't necesseary for an egg but it is for chicks in the egg. But since mating is starting early and is frequent I don't know how comon it is that birds produce eggs that aren't fertilized; a way to see it is that it is expensive to produce eggs in vain.Summi wrote: April 24th, 2019, 5:38 pm Isn't it in their genes to do what is necessary for successful copulation? How can she lay the first egg in order to get the "knowhow" if she does not know what to do to have an egg?Anybody has any other thoughts on this matter?

This lady mystifies me...mogga wrote: April 24th, 2019, 8:02 pm °°°

Mati tried forever to "tame" and teach one such very young lady - the fish worked, the mating not at all, and nothing helped. She was furious every time he approached her "from above" and was fighting back.
This female is completely peaceful. She does not look at all surprised when Ivo lands on her back. She also accepts and lets him land and do "his thing". She was just not very cooperative immediately, but she does not give an impression that this comes from inexperience. She seems to know very well what is happening.
A completely young, inexperienced bird would not behave this peacefully and non-aggressively.
She seems to definitely have some experience.
My guess is that she is not that young/first time returner from Africa. Maybe she just didn't find a partner immediately/it did not work the first year when she returned. And maybe she just needs some more time (for Ivo to bring fish and show that he is a good future mate, that he can make a nice nest etc). After all, they paired up just a couple of days ago..
And yes, the mating at 20:52 was very successful and a bit later, at 21:16 it was, too!

Thanks, everyone for all the photos and commentary with the timeline. It's so helpful that someone takes the time to give the details.
I have a question. Does anyone know why the adults so often stare into the cam? Is it a reflection?

Ivo too...
What else is interesting, Ivo always gave to Irma fish, turning to her. Calmly waited for her to come and take. And with chicks as well.
And with this lady he always stands with her back and covers the fish with her wings ... What could it mean?
