Today, between 12.00 and 13.00, was a moment when May and Matti are in the nest, carefully looked to one side, then Mattie cried aloud and they together fled the nest. Perhaps, something that frightened them and has caused the disappearance of a chicken? Who can scare these big birds?

I think that alive the second nestling. It looks smaller than the one I see since yesterday evening. Although, they hatched with a little time difference, therefore, is not radically different from each other.Solo wrote:Gavril, you think it is the 1st or the 2st chick, who is alive? I watched the feeding yesterday at 16:40, one chick was eating, the other one seemed sleeping. When the feeding was over at 16:45 it rose his/her head for some seconds up and then there were two heads. Later I didn't see feedings anymore (wasn't watching continuously).
At 19:57 and 21:51 Mai's behaviour was strange, both times Mati landed with a nice fish, but Mai didn't take it (I wrote about it in my posts) and didn't feed chick(s). Both chicks were in the nest this time, but were laying down. What matter, I don't know, may be some disease

I saw both chicks yesterday evening, too. The youngest chick looked sleepy and didn't eat. Neither did Mai try to feed it.
I believe, that with Mati's behaviour of bringing not enough food, her instinct would be to feed just one out of the chicks.
I remember last year, the male kept on bringing food many times a day.

I checked Pontu videos from last night and this morning.
Pls. check the video 6.6.2016 @ 21:28. This was the last time two chicks can be seen on the nest. It became dark at 23:30 and everything seemed to be ok at that time. In the early morning on 7.6.2016 @ 4:02 there were only one chick and an egg. Something happened during the dark time of the night and one of the chicks was gone.

I expect ospreys cannot go fishing in the dark. Mai looks sad and is waiting in the middle of silence

It is odd that the fish is headless but otherwise appears untouched.
I would assume that Mai would of eaten and the chick too....so maybe what I see is not a fish. Or this is a second fish delivered this morning.
We need a picture.
EDIT: 5:13
Yes it is a fish, Mai just used her beak to lift it a bit

Mai starts to eat the fish and is chirping to her Osplet.
She is feeding it now!
