We have a second egg! It arrived shortly after 7am this Monday morning. We can expect a third by Thursday.
On Saturday morning an intruding golden eagle appeared on Camera 2 and provoked a huge dogfight in the skies around the nest.

At 17:58 CJ7 laid her second egg this evening. And 022 decided to bring more plastic to the nest. So many mixed emotions in one go 😬😫

Loch Arkaig 2, Scotland

April 27

Woodland Trust
Thursday 27th and we have a third egg on Nest 2! It arrived at 7:36am. Osprey eggs usually take 35-37 days to hatch so we might expect chicks from around May 26 onwards.

Meanwhile Nest 1 has finally been seeing some osprey activity. A tagged bird - LV0 - landed a couple of times on Tuesday morning. This bird was ringed as a chick in 2020 by our own Lewis Pate at Loch Garry which runs parallel to Loch Arkaig further north. Wednesday afternoon saw more appearances including LV0, at one point having a spat with two other birds!

And then there were three!! CJ7 laid her third (and possibly final) egg of 2023 at 16:18 this afternoon, just after the worst of the rain! The new egg is the reddest one visible here at the back!

Male Osprey 022 occasionally brings in black plastic thinking it’s nesting material, however today the nest lining turned predator and he soon ‘dealt’ with the problem!

One of our 2 year old Ospreys from our 2021 translocation has been seen. Female 372 was spotted on a nest cam, not here in Poole Harbour but yep….you’ve guessed it…Wales!! At 11:30am she touched down briefly on the Llyn Clywedog nest. Thanks John Williams for the speedy info 👍

The third egg has arrived! There has been a steady flow of fish to the nest and a relaxed approach to incubation.
After much deliberation, we have also decided to call the unringed male Brodie! Long may he serve...fish.

Whats deja-vu in Welsh? Yet again, another of our translocated 2021 female Ospreys to Poole Harbour, this time '379', has appeared in Wales, this time at the Dyfi Osprey nest. This is the 2nd in less than a week and the 4th in 4 years! Will we see a record return this spring/summer?!

Our HD photos have just confirmed that Osprey ringed 372 is now in Poole Harbour, having landed on one of the monitored nest platforms this morning! 372 was translocated in 2021, and was first seen back in the UK on Friday at Llyn Clywedog in Wales.
It's extremely exciting that she has now turned up in the harbour! Will she make an appearance on the livestream webcam today??

Here’s 372 on the same nest as today but back on Aug 20th 2021. She had been released/fledged in early August that year and grew in confidence quickly, beginning to explore the harbour before then departing a few weeks later.

We have some VERY exciting news about our Osprey Project...
A new chapter of the story unfolds as we launch our Osprey Tours: a guided experience which takes you to see CJ7 and 022 at their Poole Harbour nest site. Over the last year, more and more people have inevitably discovered where the pair are nesting, and we have been incredibly grateful for their cooperation in keeping the location to themselves. Most importantly, this has given the pair space to settle and have a successful first season, but it has also allowed us to build a plan to provide a secure guided viewing opportunity at the site with the bird’s best interest in mind. To be able to achieve this, we have been lucky enough to form a partnership between Birds of Poole Harbour and local business Careys Secret Garden; a beautiful walled garden nestled in the Piddle Valley that is perfectly situated to provide guided viewing of the Osprey nest.
Of course, Ospreys are a Schedule 1 Species and the safety of this special pair is our priority, so we have been working closely with Dorset Police Rural Crime Team and the National Wildlife Crime Unit, as well as our dedicated team of volunteers monitoring the site to ensure the birds are not at risk of disturbance. Due to the sensitivity of the nest site, we really appreciate you taking the time to read our full post before booking a tour to visit Careys Secret Garden:
