18:47:58 third attempt to leave the nest. this time I hope it will stay away

now it flies for fishing. It doesn't know where and it doesn't know how ... but that doesn't matter. All are happy that our flying storklets are able to find food by themselves.

Overall, that was the worst thing I have ever documented. Not because of what happened here. That is to be accepted.

Grafiene was at the nest for the last time on August 12th at 14:40

The earliest documented fledge was 56 days in a nest with 4 chicks. On average, they spend 65-72 days in the nest, depending on the food available.

Hatch Times:
June 12th - #1 is today 72 days old / #1 fledged on August 21 at 7:43 AM
June 14th - #2 is today 70 days old / #2 fledged on August 21 at 9:32 AM
June 15th - #3 is today 69 days old / #3 fledged on August 20 at 8:39 AM

Storklets #2 and #3 hatched in the darkness. Could be they are 70 and 71 days old.

The storklet stands on the hind branch, resting on one leg...til the darkness came. Before he/she was preening intensely him/herself.

no food today and only 1 feeding yesterday. Most of the food for one storklet. The third was not on the nest, the second came in as almost all fish was eaten by the first. Last feeding before was July 20!

It is believed that they can find food themselves at this age. (Chat) This is more depressing to me than what happened here. I have been observing this food shortage for weeks. It got less and less. Since the end of July it would have been just enough to feed one of them well.
I mean, what do we learn from it ... they can survive with little food so long that we don't have to watch what happens.

I think the other two are the without food for long. Actually, I don't want to think about what will happen to them now. There is no food in this area. A feeding station has been set up 200 meters away. Maybe it will be found ...

Nest was empty in the early morning .It flew of in the dark

1:32 AM suddenly wing flapping and it sounds like a fall .. breaking branches....

The storklet was off for a long time, it could find something to eat or at least some water. Perhaps it will fly away today and if the storklets found the feeding station they'll hardly return to the nest: they learnt that there would be no food any longer there. If only last night before migration.

The storklet left at 15.50, no idea for how long though.

15:50 Storklet left the nest.. it was two days without food. the same as with the others. They should have been fed a few more weeks. much food.. not 1 feeding a day for three!
all are much too young I feel very sad for them..




I'm happy they are without transmitter. maybe Maris will find them.

All of them started their migration without being adequately fed.
here one can only say, they left the nest .. they start migration nowhere
