Hi everyone
Yeaaahhh, Biker and romy, you got him hooting and scratching at the nest place (at least it looks so in romy´s picture, his posture implies this ...)
I am not in doubt that this shouldn´t be our handsome Leo ..... it would be great when the female, which can be heard responding to Leo, would show herself on the ledge or on the nest place too - so that we can start speculating whether it is Lotte or not
Isn´t it a good sign that Leo visits the traditional nest place repeatedly? Maybe he meanwhile draw the conclusion that this is the best breeding spot, instead of his earlier suggestions, wanting to hide Lotte underbehind some greens on other places on the ledge

Ring on left leg
He left at about 18:52 and I could not hear a female answering while he was hooting ...
When he was at the nest bowl, he also sent several looks upside to the spot where the foxes, the raccoon and the dormice came down and he also looked back to this higher place when he was already out on the ledge again

6. February
Now we know why Leo looked up to the higher spot near the nest bowl repeatedly ....
Maybe this raccoon has its home somewhere near the nest place here
Camera caught him at 02:33, picture from the archives
No-no, this is no good omen for a successful breeding season

Thanks Bea, I had overlooked this archive picture.
If so, I only have a very short connection to the cam. I'm surprised there are archive pictures. I've given up now. And since the raccoon is still there, no owl will breed either. I haven't heard Lotte yet. Who knows if she's still alive, she's already an elderly lady.

Same here with the connection, it usually breaks after a minute or so (sometimes even less than a minute) and one has to refresh and try to start again and again .... but I can´t do that .... so no recordings possible with this current situation.
Probably it´s technically much easier to send a snapshot every 30 minutes than to keep a live-stream running.
But I am not giving up hope that the situation will improve some day in the future, hope dies las
As far as I know a female was heard calling a while ago, but she did not show herself in cam view until now.
And as long as this raccoon will appear here regularly and check the nest area it is wise to not settle down at this place

I don't think that's Leo. The video on the website says it's a male. Could it be that this is the new lady? I mean to hear Leo outside. Strange noises!
In the Highlights from February there is also a picture of the raccoon.

I am neither sure whether this is Leo or not, but as I hear it there is a female hoarse voice responding outside while the male is on the nest place
Video from bdlowls

21. February
Mating sounds, but our love birds stay out of sight
20:23
First only male calls, then female joins him, they are clucking together and then these high pitched mating twitters can be heard

24. February
18:36
Leo visits the nest place
Sorry, sound is not completely sync
Someone was also here in the morning, pictures from the archives
Was it Leo? If so, he was there quite a time, the first picture is from 05:03 and the last from 06:03
This would have been quite unusual long for him
A while before his evening visit I heard a duck quacking in the valley and I am so happy to hear that! At least some water birds dare to come back to the Ahrtal.
Another positive aspect for the Ahrtal ---- thousands of young salmons were released to the river Ahr, the water quality has improved and so the responsibles decided to let them go into the water there

Great, that you got them, romy
It looks like my recording failed
It is possible that there was a hand-over of a food gift.
