Hello, Liz. Thank you for documenting the visit. :>

Compared to the previous, largely quiet visit, this one was fairly vociferous. Family was definitely near, and surely Margit had caught sight of a parent when she took leave of the eyrie, as she was vocalizing excitedly. On the quiet 21 Aug day, even when she spied a decent sized bird passing above that cast a shadow (15:34:04), and she twisted her head around to keep track of it, no call was uttered. Not family and non-threatening. Nothing to say, I suppose.

Margit's eye briefly catches the contrasty light, tempting one into a screenshot. Calling for family prior to her exit at - 14:18:23.

Hello, Liz. Thanks for the screenshots. :> I did hear and see Margit this morning.

2022-08-26

07:55:54 - Margit began vocalizing on and off.

08:00:11 - She flashes in from the left. We can barely make out her white feather bases as she passes beneath the eyrie. It was a little easier to tell it was her during the livestream, with more frames, and being able to hear her vocalizing as she flew. She alighted for an unknown period of time in the tree at the far right. You can kind of see her arc upwards as she does so in the .gif below.

Thank you to Liz for keeping us in the loop with nice screenshots and video.

It was a twenty three minute visit. Here are a couple of the itchiest parts. ;> Shedding down can be itchy business.

"The easiest way to document such returns is to inspect nests regularly after fledging and note the accumulation of down on the nest surface. Fledging and fledged eagles molt down profusely for several weeks. I remember an August 4, 1970, visit (about one month after fledging) to the Flat Creek nest in Central Montana. Evidence from down at the nests showed that the eaglets were spending lots of time in nests numbers 2, 3, and 4, but little or none in the nest from which they fledged." - David H. Ellis in Enter the Realm of the Golden Eagle, Chapter 15.3

13:43:29 - Margit stoops down from on high, arriving silently at the eyrie.

Image

Into the nest, still quiet. She hangs out behind the forebranch, preening a bit.

Image

14:15:51 - It isn't until this timestamp that she starts calling to Helju and/or Kalju. About twelve strings, ending at 14:20.
14:28:11 - Calmer chatter for a few strings, ending at 14:30.
14:33:37 - Eliminates waste, then begins calling excitedly ten times in a row (one string of calls), turns and leaps up to the far left branch.
14:33:44 - Margit leaves towards the bog, down and to the right out beyond the canopy. She makes three isolated vocalizations on the wing (seconds: 45, 48, 49). Fifty minutes at the eyrie.
