So, after nearly 2 weeks it seems that all we know is that people are aware of this problem, but nothing is being done about it. Or, if some kind of intervention is being planned, there's been no information as to what and when.

As someone who has donated to Kotkaklubi on several occasions (including the most recent fundraiser), and also having suggested at the end of last season that we might do some fundraising for improved transmission equipment for both osprey cams, forgive me for saying that I’m pretty dissatisfied with this situation.

While I totally understand that both online and offline resources have mainly been focused on black storks lately, the fact remains that the essence of any livestream is continuity. Now that the orphaned storklets seem to be happily settled, I truly hope that someone at Kotkaklubi will find the time to deal with this longer-term problem as well, and also let us know if there is anything that we viewers can do to ensure that things go more smoothly in the future.

Hello osprey fans! :hi:

I just tried an other way to get some infos and Triin from Kotkaklubi could give me at least something that I can share here:

"Technical problems. We need to install new parts. It's an old system. Hope to do it next week, but Urmas wasn't sure. He'll ring the chicks soon."

Thank you, Triin!

At least we now know a little bit more and have some reason to hold up hope

From the LK main page:

Sad news from Võrumaa's osprey nest
https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/node/6836
GT
The nest equipped with a webcam of Võrumaa ospreys (Kalakotkas 1), where the female bird Miina and the male bird Marko were nesting with two eaglets, was without a picture for a long time due to damage caused by lightning.

Today the nest was empty, the feathers of the young osprey were broken under the nest tree. The killing may have taken place a few days ago.

The initial opinion is that it could have been a goshawk, because we have also seen its attacks in previous years through a web camera.

Good evening to all
Hellem, thank you for the message. I don't know what to say....
Somehow everything fits together...
I love these two crazy birds (Miina and Marko) but I hope they don't breed on this nest anymore

Good luck to Iiris and Ivo chicks 🍀🍀🍀

Goshawks won't leave this nest unless anybody stops them. Unfortunately ospreys don't change nest even when lose their chicks(like Teo, who also lost his brood three times).

As sad as this seems to us, from an adult osprey's point of view 33.3% breeding success is probably acceptable. No doubt they will try again next year.

But the still unanswered question is: will we be able to see it, if we want to see it? No mention at all here of whether the camera problem can be repaired, or if so, when...

I do not think so. Kotkaklubi needs a lot of money for food for the black storks. According to Triin, this is an old system. I don't think they want to invest the money in a camera where the *season is over*.
Of course I would like to know if Miina and Marko are OK...but...

And next year will probably be the same.
