Suggest Names for Karula '22 Black Stork chicks

Post by Jo UK »

This year there may be some challenges to finding names.

Juta tells me that Estonian names beginnign with U and V don't exist, but with W there is no problem.
So that leaves us looking for a name for 718W. V and U will have to remain as letters.
Ideas, please.
Bonus already has his name; it would be confusing to try to rename him now. As we don't know the gender of W then it must be a gender-neutral name or word.
Please give this some thought and post your ideas. We need each others' help with this!

Good luck. :dunno:

JO, does it have to be an estonian name? Staying only with the letter is not very nice..

It should be an Estonian name or WORD. An example of a word could be Estonian for breeze, or shower, or lift or - - -

Swenja, apparently there are no Estonian name beginning with V or X.
That is why we want everyone's help this year.
Ideas, please.

Did I write U at first? Sorry.

Leaving two of the chicks unnamed doesn't seem right. We must think of a way around that.
If to name X with his initial letter, we may have to go to Greece because I can only think of Xerxes!
or xanthan gum.

Keep the ideas coming, please..

Sorry, maybe I wrote to Jo something wrong!
We don´t have W and X but have V.
My suggestion is to give a name only for storklet with transmitter - 718 W.
But any other opinion is welcome.
Most of all I like names which are given spontaneously, like Bonus.

Apologies if I read it wrong, Juta. But right or wrong, this year's names are going to take longer.
Something will occur to us :gathering:

Alright. I also think it's just right to find names for all three - Bonus stays Bonus for ever.
So here's my proposal for X: Xeno. 'Xeno' means "stranger, guest" ('Hello Stranger, I haven't seen you before, come in, be my guest') And this is what Black Storks are: guests and strangers at the same time, here and there in Africa.

Boy Names : Villem,Valdek, Viktor,
Girl Names: Vilvi, Vera, Victoria,
For X maybe õnne, (which in English means happiness)
For W is difficult, does not exist in Estonian either
Bonus can stay for me too
Hopefully someone will find a nice name for W. :gathering: :loveshower:

Perhaps this link may be helpful:

A list of names that start with X (including their meaning) :innocent:

”… X marks the spot! Searching for the best baby name that starts with X can be quite a task, but we’ve come up with a full list of the cutest and most unique boy, girl, and unisex names …”

Edit:
And on the same website, all names that start with W:

Yes, but we could name X as Xeni for Xenia or Xenius.
And V as Vicki for example.

And W Willow or Wells.

I personally find it a little "unfair" if we only name W and leave the others as Letters.

Unfortunately, it will be many months before the DNA results are known.

I think we need Juta's guidance on gender-specific names and non-Estonian names. Let's wait to see what she suggests.
Perhaps we can opt for names which can be changed easily between masculine and feminine. e.g. Victor and Vickie.
Will and Willa, and so on.

Yes, that's why I thought of E.g. Xeni as Xenia or Xenius. Vicki is also fine.

Unfortunately, I do not speak Estnian and I don't have an Estnian world list. There for it is very difficult for me to find estnian words which could fit as names.
(And I haven't found a word list in the Internet.)

Let's wait for Juta.

Hello all!

This time is not easy to find Estonian names with W and X. Moreover who knows when we will know their gender.
We can not give Estonian names but also no specifically genger-based name.
Help! Difficult!!!
Maybe really something like from Grece or Latin?

V - VOOG (flow)
W - WABA (free in a century-old script)
X - IKS (letter X pronunciation in Estonian)
