Re: Goshawk nest in Riga 2023
13:50 H21 is calling
14:18 The couple babbles ...
mating #2
'20 continue chatting briefly
14:42 H21 flutes very melodically
'44 now the couple discussed plain language.
They may consider bringing in the eggs first, and only then continue building.
No, they are very indecisive - '46 mating#3.

Hello Polly, Peregrine and everyone.
Recently there have been more signs of hope to use this nest, approaches and mating but they were already in heat for a long time. They've already put the accelerator in gear.
They will lay the first egg shortly.
The camera has recently been brought closer, probably to better see the rings of visitors and residents, but it has never had a remote adjustable zoom.
In Nethertland they say that the first egg has already been laid, there as in Tartu the nest is deep and does not look good. Here it is a luxury that they are not super builders like friend Ruudi.
14:42, 44 Sounds
14:46 Mating
14:57 Sounds other than H21 (almost certain)
Many years ago we were in Scotland by bicycle and I have surely been in your town.
Greetings

I have never doubted that they were not going to breed, only that they could change places due to the discomfort they suffered for a long time right in the nest area.I am sure that they will use this nest for the third year.

15:22 H21 is calling
16:32 H44 with 'Gjak' in the tree and H21 from a different position
... pairing #4 for today!
The couple chattered on a little more.
Emiliano!

What else does the couple do in the morning?
'42 H21 keeps calling
17:03/04 Jay creaks
A blackbird sings devotedly through the afternoon.

Hello Polly , Peregrine and everyone.
Since 5:35 they have not been heard until almost two hours later. I still don't believe it. All the goshawks say "good morning" in the morning at dawn almost every day, even the H's have always done it (in November and December H21 was very regular). Too little time for egg laying, it is not normal that they are not in the vicinity at dawn, but they will write history.
Sometimes looking at sunset I have seen the goshawks that were already in their sleeping place at a distance of about 500 m from the nest but outside the breeding season.
The Scotland trip was many years ago and we stayed for at least three weeks. I remember Inverness, Edinburgh, Skye, Loch Ness ...
Greetings and waiting for tomorrow.

@Peregrine23
I suspected that maybe a quote or something like that went wrong.
Everyone, absolutely everyone, is welcome here with their thoughts and observations.
It would be a relief for us too.
Everything is okay.
Oh no, i'm not the least bit upset. I was just looking for after the red thread to your post and couldn't find it....to upset you

They start the process again today like yesterday.
It's hair-pulling this season.
12:22 first calls? (is that right?)
Next '55
13:06
(But I'm only at 1:27 p.m. - maybe something else is possible.)
Anyone have anything from the day?
13:39 A bumblebee in the nest!
Wait, I need to see the temperature...
Yes, around 12°C maximum temperature.
Yes yes, I keep waiting.Emiliano wrote:...and waiting for tomorrow.

14:56 Another call...same as 12:55
4 (5) short calls that sound so seemingly insignificant, without urgency, without any special nuances.
Is it a simple "I'm here."?
Think they come from H44. It sounds like it.
H21 is akways calling with messages. The woman thing.

I wasn't able to capture much more today (I had a visitor spontaneously).
But one more thing - I read in 2022.
And the situation a year ago was almost identical!
To be read from March 22, 2022:
(H21 laid the first egg of the season on March 26 amid inclement weather)
viewtopic.php?p=843481#p843481
However, their nest sighting activities were more.
However, this year the nest is actually already finished - even if we have other visions - the couple has their own ideas and for them the nest is ready, so to speak.
They constantly adapt it during the incubation period and beyond and continue to bring in nest material.
What is missing so far are preparations in the nest bowl (digging) and the delicate white feathers they lose when the breeding field forms on the underside.
Well, this deficit is due to the absence in the nest.
Let's wait ...
Good night, sleep well!

Hi Polly , Peregrine and everyone.
There were sounds but distant 7:04:40 and close at 7:08:26 all from 5:26 to 7:45.
You already know what I think.
Last year they laid the first egg on the 26th and not the 24th as I thought. There may still be a few days to go.
The next area to the left is very close and you would hear everything. It is a large long but not huge grove. There are other parks already at such a distance that it would not be heard from the camera.
Thanks Peregrine, we do what we can in what excites us.
Greetings

Hello Emiliano, Peregrine23 and @all!
10:03 excited babble and mating
from 10:17 H21 calls several times
'19 H44 runs into the nest and brings a branch with it. He really walks in.
Put down the branch, take a cute selfie and flutter out again. Probably on a nearby branch - and calls in a clear, unfussy voice.
10:22 we see him fly away in the park - mating
11:46/47 bright calls not far away

13:47 First, H21 can be heard in the distance
...jay...
and H21 is near now, calling.
'52 Mating after a short vocal change
H21 sounds heated long after mating.
