Re: Goshawk nest in Riga 2023
As for egg laying - I'm expecting the first egg this weekend.
The nest is ready à la H's. There's nothing wrong with that.
Alright, let's see.
By the way, in the evening we heard a nice chirping in the area.
As for my impatience, I can't wait for the chiffchaff.
Sleep well!

They have not been absent entirely, just from the immediate area of this nest for many periods of time. We will see how it is solved.
I do not expect the first egg to be laid so soon, I think that if they used this nest they should have a few days before with a more continuous presence.
Greetings

Hello together!
A little shouting runs through the area in the morning.
08:38, 09:26 and '41 ...think everything H21.
10:53 and then she flutters into the nest calling. With company, of course.
The crows follow them into the tree and H21 jumps onto the top branch.

12:26, '27 H21 calls
12:48 H44 with 'Gjak' in very close position.
H21 answers. She seems to be sitting a little further away.
'49 H21 calls very melodically (and excitedly)
'50 calls again
'51 pairing
It's very windy today.
My weather app currently says 9°C for Riga.

The H's continue to rush through the terrain like ghosts. We don't see them but we can hear them.
13:17/18, '21 H21 calls vigorously
14:38 both are chirping
15:50 H21 is still calling nearby
16:00 - 18 now removed and excited
'20 closer again
Good night everyone!
¡Saludos a España!

The H's continue their spring - just not here.
Two pairings at the edge of the park: 13:16, 14:15
Otherwise there were only honking crows. couples? One honks 'mäg mäg', the other goes 'nög nög nög' ...
09:00 The Redfinch
...the intrepid great tits...
And a woodpecker.
I dare not say middle woodpecker or great spotted woodpecker.
See you!

Hello Polly and everyone.
From 5:30 (well at night in Riga) listening until well into the day. So several days and nothing. They barely appear all day, they only patrol and let themselves be seen from time to time in the area near the nest to make us conceive hope. I am very afraid that the H's, although they are unpredictable, have chosen their place a long time ago. We would have to wait for a small miracle for them to be breeding here again.
The situation is not so dramatic, they have done their usual heat and will breed, where...?
Greetings

Good morning Polly and all.
From 5:25 to 7:50 you don't hear a thing. Where are they in that time that is usually very active a few days before the first egg can be laid?
It seems that in another place but then they are heard at 10:42, 11:19, 11:20. There is a mating at 11:35 and at 11:36 H21 ( es H44 ) appears in the nest in force.
Last year they laid the first egg on March 26.
We'll see what happens but from time to time they make us believe that they will be here in a few days.
Greetings

Thank you Emiliano!
H44 can already be seen at 11:36:16 flying past the nest at super speed. He flies a bow and then stumbles into the nest.
I don't know if it's an illusion in the picture. H44 flies past the nest and below the nest to the left of the trunk is another bird - or its 'shadow'.

'11 calls
12:31, '40 H21 chatters
'43 both
Excited again.
'53/'54 calls
13:23 Someone is calling in the tree
land rain ....
13:48 Both cannot be heard far and one flies through the trees opposite the nest
At least the couple hangs around a lot these days.

Emiliano, that's absolutely fine!!!
We are four eyes and ears ... what one does not notice, the other notices.
The main thing is that there is one in the nest. We're happy about everyone, aren't we!?
I'm off work earlier today...the stream is already running at 07:26. I've got some work to do
See you later!

No further sightings but many acoustic signs that are not recognized with sliders on YouTube.

11:54 An H with 'Gjak' in the tree...possible H44
Further:
12:07, '13, '14, '16, '47, '56 close lute again
13:19, '20 H44 with 'Gjak'
'21 well not sure if it was a closed mating but the pair jammed close. 8-)
They are very fickle this season, yes.
But the couple hang out here for a good portion of the day.
Would they do it if they had a nest somewhere else?
Even if...they are fine!!! That's the main thing.
