The following does not include all sessions of incubation by the male, only those approaching or exceeding 2 hours. I only began keeping closer track after noticing the male on the nest for 3 hours, and 43 minutes during heavy shelling on the 29th, as noted in a previous post. The female seems to spend a longer time away from her eggs than observed at the eyries in Soomaa (Estonia), Bucovina (Romania), and another currently active nest in Finland. There is another active stream in Whychus Canyon (Oregon, USA), but the interface for scanning for activities is too time consuming to glean data for comparison, unfortunately.

2024-03-30

15:25-17:40 - Male incubates for 2 hours, 15 minutes.

2024-03-31

10:26-12:23 - Male incubates for 1 hour, 57 minutes.
15:08-17:10 - Male incubates for 2 hours, 2 minutes.

Kotkaklubi wrot in the chat:
As it seems usually no reaction of adults on nest in case of explosions or aircrafts flying, please write in forum if something suspicious is observed.

Says who? You share more consistent observations than anyone, year after year. Surely those who visit the forum for more information, and those who must scan over footage at season's end find value in it. And if the citizen science helps the eagles in any way, that's what ultimately matters. Be here for the birds. Let the rest be water off a duck's back.

2024-04-01

08:14:06 - Raven (Corvus corax) flyover. We can't see them, but we can hear them kwourqing. The golden male is incubating. He peers up and sends forth high pitched skawk vocalizations.

Thrice today the male alighted at the nest while the female was still comfortably incubating.

Image

11:01-13:48 - The male spends 2 hours, 47 minutes incubating.

17:11-19:11 - The male spends 2 hours incubating.

The incubation sessions from the male continue to not be as lengthy as on the high shelling day, but 2 hour sessions are common and do seem to be normal at this eyrie. Is this influenced by individual behavior, or is there an external factor? I will stop noting these sessions for now, unless they reach or exceed 3 hours.

Raven, the game has been running since 2015! I'm exclusively because of the birds here.
But I lost my motivation, it just goes on too long!
