Hi everyone! :hi:

I just saw that the Birdmap has now been adjusted to the fall migration, which means I can finally start posting regular updates on our birds' progress. So far we're seeing five of them, our new friends Alvar, Kerli and Trauma don't show up yet. Let's hope they'll be added soon.

I hope to be able to post the first summary later in the day, but please don't hold me to it. :laugh:

Ah, well, who am I kidding. Of course doing this first overview was something I couldn't postpone at all... :D So here we are. I don't particularly like that last data point from Timmu near the railway track, so I hope we'll soon see that all is okay in the next update...

Strictly speaking, Kuremari is a Latvian BS. But we document her/his migration here because she got an Estonian transmitter and was entered into the Estonian OrniTrack system. We really do hope our Latvian friends will also enjoy the tracker maps we publish. :thumbs:

Oh, I was away from migration news for a few years (since we lost contact with Mare... I usually posted her data in the Latvian DD forum and also followed Birmap`s tracks). Only a couple of days ago I took a look at Birdmap and focused on this stork. I did not expect that such a story would open since May 26, 2023, and that the second autumn migration is already starting! :eek:

Thank you so much for all of your great posts and tirelessness! Really appreciate it! :2thumbsup:

I'd like to know and I think it's safe to say now without specifying a location - did Kuremari nesting this summer ir Latvia? Perhaps it can be determined by the data of the transmitter.

That would be so awesome! :D

As jersi already mentioned, there is good news to report. Timmu has sent new data, and has moved a bit to the south (as has Kergu). So all is fine with him, and it was just a transmission issue. :thumbs:

The other three still see no reason to move on.

Hello Made, Jersi and Hulbi :hi:

As far as it can be deduced from the lines in OrniTrack, Kuremari did not raise chicks this year. When there is successful nesting, we see a large star-shaped ‘central’ point appearing, due to the many flights to and from the nest. I don't see that kind of typical pattern.
Multiple ‘star-shaped’ patterns can be seen on the map though, on good feeding grounds and on some favourite night locations. So I suspect Kuremari did not nest successfully in 2024.

I am also relieved that Timmu has reappeared on birdmap, safe and sound. :thumbs:
