After we got no data yesterday, we can see now that Kuremari has crossed the Gulf of Iskenderun in Türkiye and has made it already to Israel and is close to the border to Jordania
The map includes several fake flights - data-Tohuwabohu along the war zones ....

Wow, that amount of phantom flights is amazing.

I find it really interesting that our birds' transmitters react so differently in that regard. Kergu only had that phantom flight to Ankara, some have none, Kuremari has a dozen... Weird.

Anyway, I am relieved that Kergu, Timmu and even Kuremari are safe and sound beyond the most dangerous war zones by now. Well done!

We have seen fake flights to the International Airport of Ankara, to the International Airport of Beirut, and now recently to the Queen Alia International Airport, south of Amman in Jordan.


Some information on the phantom flights to Beirut’s international airport:

Israel fakes GPS locations to deter attacks, but it also throws off planes and ships

BEIRUT — For the past few months, the U.S.-operated Global Positioning System (GPS) has been listing planes, people and even ships hundreds of miles from Lebanon in a surprising place — Beirut's international airport.
It's the result of a practice called GPS "spoofing" — which sends false location signals to satellites that overwhelm the real signals.
The operations, which researchers have traced to Israel, are intended to deter rockets and missiles but are at the same time increasing risks for airline passengers while forcing pilots and ship captains to abandon automated safety systems developed over decades.
"I like to say that spoofing is the new jamming," says Todd Humphreys, a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Texas at Austin who is an expert on GPS spoofing. "Instead of just jamming the signals and breaking the links with GPS satellites, they're spoon-feeding them false signals."

Biggest news of the day: Kuremari has been feasting on a beautiful fish farm, and two of our friends have decided to continue their journey, and it seems they did so together. Alvar and Nurme have reached Moldova, starting from the same place in Ukraine, ending at the same place in Moldova, and their flight routes look very close to each other. Amazing!

Nurme and Alvar most likely already met in Estonia as well. Both have their territory in Pärnu County.
Funny that they are now hanging out together for a while.


The fishponds north of Neve Eitan - where Kuremari is refuelling - is popular with Black Storks.
In 2022 (early December) Bonus was there too.

Neve Eitan (Hebrew: נְוֵה אֵיתָן, lit. "strong residence") is a kibbutz in the Beit She'an Valley in northern Israel. Located about 1 km east of Beit She'an and 1 km west of Maoz Haim, it is under the jurisdiction of Valley of Springs Regional Council. In 2019 it had a population of 311.
The kibbutz was established on 25 November 1938 by Polish members of the "Akiva" movement as part of the "tower and stockade campaign". Native Israelis joined the settlement in 1952.

Edit: Could these not be phantom flights? Why should Kuremari fly in a straight line to Amman, which seems a rather ununsual route? And the fact that she's so close to an airport makes me think of Ankara airport? So maybe no need to worry at all?

Also, looking at the last two autumn migrations: No stork has ever flown that far east of the Jordan river. It doesn't really seem plausible to me.

Fortunately, there is no reason to worry about these lines

All these lines (in OrniTrack) back and forth to and from Queen Alia International Airport, south of Amman in Jordan, are ghost flights due to GPS spoofing.
We have been seeing them appear for a few days now (as of 27.09)
