Yesterday Birgit took the chance of the beautiful autumn weather to drive to the Rio Grande and to the Lagoon of Campillos. Instead of Marsh Harriers in flight – as hoped for – Birgit just by chance photographed this Purple Moorhen in flight

Imagine the shock of the nice little smileys, also called green frogs, about the presence of this young Grey Heron at the biotope:

Miss Grey Heron parades now nearly every day in the garden and where before 32 Green Frogs enjoyed taking sunbath, now not even one …

Birgit got a new camera, which weighs much less, but got a remarkable Zoom. It’s the new FZ 200 from Panasonic which Birgit tried and is rather enthralled about. – Look, whom Birgit met there at the lighthouse of Calaburras, for example this Whimbrel

Please start looking for your magnifier, you might need it!

No, not for this male Shoveller Duck, but …

… also Birgit had to look for the Little Bittern in the thicket with magnifier!

Among the birders in Marbella there is quite some excitement, because at the mouth of a river there is since a few days this Crested Coot:

The Crested Coot is still staying between its relatives, the Coots, at the river mouth:

Image

Considering, that estimated only 10-15 breeding pairs of this rare birds per year are raising successfully chicks, you can imagine our joy, that we, in the middle of tourist turmoil we were at all able to see this bird.
Here please find another short report:

Yesterday Birgit hat great fun at the river mouth of Marbella. How surprising how many nice things you get to see if you just bring some time and patience with you.

And it doesn’t go without notice: also this young Yellow –legged Gull is mighty amused during her bath:

Of course Birgit knows, that the Mallards are here in every park. It’s not like this Spain and therefore the beauty of these ducks enthralls them and the ducks are called in Spain “the royal ducks”:

Please find the report of a Mallard amorous couple here:
