:hi:
the other day we exchanged shortly an interesting topic.
whether and how bears do "real hibernate"
viewtopic.php?p=630017#p630017

I've read now:
The biggest difference is the ability to separate the body temperature regulation from the lowering of the metabolism.
shortly:
they lowering of the metabolism and can have nevertheless an almost normal body temperature - at the same time !!

so far i knew sleepers which change between solidification and a little awake.
Or others which doze in a kind of reduced status.

edit
I forgot: the kidney function also changes from full power to reduced - as needed.

Thanks for the Spiegel-link, biker!
Die „gefährlichen Raubtiere“ (dangerous predators) …. sure, if they’re approached in the wrong way, like humans do it too often - if because of lacking knowledge or just missing respect – but Dr. Lynn Rogers showed a quite different picture! And for my feeling is his research as close to the animals as possible.

And Dr. Lynn (as I call him) is measuring temperatures and writing about metabolism since years! So it’s really worth to follow these updates. You not only learn about (Black) Bears but also observations of other animals like:

In todays update there is quite something interesting about the Beaver, the Estonian ‚animal of the year‘: about Beaver walking on two (hind) legs! Ever heard about?
Have a nice day!

that's true! one should stay curious, then you never stop learning.
Therfore, thanks again for your great job here.

I also watched this cam "Lily and Hope" back then, when Hope was born.
And unforgotten: the Lily & Hope Reunification scene. :)
But i had overlooked this topic here for years ( :slap: ), now i look in more often now.
