I love this site! thanks for finding it and posting, renandeli. I went backwards while there and discovered the site is owned by a photographer ~ no pictures of storks or eagles, though.

Would you post this link in the "How Do You Say? " thread? It would be very valuable there, I believe.

I found a gallery where there are pictures of all (about two-three are missing) 341 bird species of Estonia.

Eagles and 'that kind', hawks etc.. are about on the page 3. Black stork is on the page 1. The names are in Latin and Estonian and in French, too. I didn't find a version with English names. It's funny there is a version with Finnish names but no english.. rare...

Somebody, Denis Lepage?, has collected the picture gallery for years: "This checklist includes all bird species found in Estonia , based on the best information available at this time. It is based on a wide variety of sources that I collated over many years. I am pleased to offer these checklists as a service to birdwatchers. Navitrolla
is a famous artist who has often used the motif of nature in his works. As part of Navitrolla’s charity campaign “Half of the Take for Eagles”, postcards designed by the artist were sold and half of the profits were donated to the cause of eagle protection.
I don't know is there any campaign anymore, but here are some pictures of his works.

Navitrolla (birth name Heiki Trolla) is very well known and well-selling:) Estonian artist.
His working style is a bit like Mark-Kalev Kostabi's (word famous Estonian artist who is living and working in New York) - there are some people who help Navitrolla in painting process; but of course he signes all the paintings.
He's highly talanted, funny, nice guy - literally genius.
Plus keeps low profile despite of being genius:)

a member in Ireland has posted a puzzling set of pictures of a starling with a very long beak. He is asking if anyone can suggest a cause for this strange sight - I was about to write "deformity" but how do I know that?

Any ideas, anyone?

Jo, I have read about similar deformities in birds - I will try to find the info again. Sometimes these are genetic malfunctions and sometimes the result of trauma. There has been an increase in such deformities over the past decade or so, I think Alaska and British Columbia in Canada had high incidences of chickadees and other species with beak problems.

One theory is that such deformities are caused by environmental pollutants (perhaps when the bird was developing in the egg, perhaps ingested later). Some birds seem able to cope, but others (with a crossed bill, for example) have a harder time getting food and starve.

Thanks for your reply, Bo. I suppose that should have been in Health problems, but until I knew more about it, I didn't know what might cause that? If environmental pollutants are changing the structure of birds, what is it doing to us? Where is all this obesity coming from - OK - that's another topic!
