It is good to see when they have survived their journey. :) :) :)

Today is another important day for the "ICARUS" Initiative

https://www.animal-sensors.mpg.de/en

This happens right now, since 18:00 German time

In early August, the two Russian cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokopiev will set out on a five-hour spacewalk to mount the antennas on the outside of the Russian service module of ISS. This will launch a roughly two-month test phase to check that all the components of the system are working correctly. If all goes well, Icarus will begin scientific operations by autumn of this year. Around 150 research projects around the globe plan to track the migrations of a wide range of animals, including sea turtles, jaguars, bats and migratory birds.

For German readers:
Am 15. August 2018 wird diese Antenne bei einem Außeneinsatz von zwei russischen Kosmonauten an der ISS angebracht. Nach einer Testphase kann das Projekt Icarus voraussichtlich Anfang 2019 beginnen

28. August

We have new guests on the birdmap, beside our already well-known Estonian ospreys Kalle and Markus, a female osprey Elena and a male, Vova, appear, both from Belarus.
Image

--------

Elena is already on her way South, but with several back-and-forths ... maybe she is a still unexperienced and young osprey lady? Or maybe due to some unconvenient weather conditions?
She has left Belarus and is in Ukraine now.
Image

About male osprey Vova is written, that he is still feeding osprets and will appear on the map as soon as he is "out of his business" there :D

------------

And Estonain osprey Kalle is also already on his way South, maybe he had no chicks this year? He has left Estonia, flew along the Latvian-Russian border and is in Belarus now.

About Estonian osprey Markus is written, that he is still feeding his fledged osprets and will be on the map when he is ready with them :D

Yesterday Belarusian male osprey Vova started his migration, obviously he is out of his feeding-the-offspring-business now

More about Vova, you can find it by clicking on his name at the birdmap

:puzzled: I suppose there is a little mistake in the text, maybe it should be "breeding was unsucessful in 2017 (when the nest fell down) and successful this year, 2018, with three offspring"
