“It will be a historic moment – the first white-tailed eagles hatched in Ireland in 110 years flying free – and tangible evidence that the ambitious conservation project to reintroduce the raptors to the Irish landscape has borne fruit.” According to the article, the female bird left her family some weeks ago. She was spooked away by a CCTV camera (Closed Circuit Television), which was set up some distance away from the nest to protect the birds.

103.FBI adopts Berlin´s White-tailed Eagle chick. Germany, July 2013

Source: Berliner Morgenpost, 25 July 201. By Tanja Laninger http://www.morgenpost.de/berlin-aktuell ... adler.html

FBI (Friedrichshagener Bürgerinitiative) http://www.fbi-berlin.org/

Information on the nest:
A pair of White-tailed Eagles raised young successfully over several years in a forest near Köpenick (Berlin). In February 2009 the female died because of lead poisoning. The male stayed in the territory and found a new partner soon. This female eagle was not ringed and very young - it is believed that she was born in 2008. Their first nesting attempt failed, but in 2010 and 2011 again some chicks fledged. Another female arrived at the nest in 2012. It was a ringed adult bird, which became the new partner of the male. The first chick of this couple was born in 2013.
